This afternoon I have made an effort to sort out my pile of junk jewellery as I call it, small pile to keep but bigger pile was taken to the local charity shop.it got me thinking just how many people actually wear it now,

I wear jewellery everyday for work. Smart professional environment, either earrings or a necklace of some sort. Female version of a tie.

I wear about 20% of my hoard but sometimes wear something from the other 80%. Occasionally I weed a few bits out when taking clothing to the homeless unit or a charity shop.

I am very lazy and wear a silver chain around my neck almost all the time- sleep in it, shower/ bath in it, swim in it. Am I unusual?

M0nica Wed 04-Mar-20 16:51:37

I have very little costume jewellery and what I have is mainly of sentimental value. However I love rings, have quite a number and wear them daily.

grannysue05 Wed 04-Mar-20 16:57:10

I have two M & S large jewellery boxes full of costume stuff. I used to wear something from it daily but not any more.

The trend seems to have gone away from chunky/interesting/colourful types of adornment to more classical pieces.

DIL seems to favour slim gold necklaces or bracelets, but that is not really my style.

I love rings too MOnica but my fingers are really gnarled with arthritis now, so I rarely give them an outing.

I like jewellery, particularly individually designed pieces. I wear it most days.
Costume jewellery is kept in decorative boxes that my GDs love to sort and dress up in.

BlueSky Wed 04-Mar-20 18:15:51

Just earrings that I wear every day. I've got quite a collection and I keep adding to it!

Millie22 Wed 04-Mar-20 18:43:57

I wear jewellery every day and have quite a lot of earrings necklaces and bracelets. I prefer small stud earrings and fine chains and not all the gaudy chunky stuff some older women wear. But then we are all different.

TrendyNannie6 Wed 04-Mar-20 18:51:19

Yes I just wear a fine silver necklace small hooped earrings generally and watch everyday

Calendargirl Wed 04-Mar-20 18:51:38

My ears are pierced twice, wear gold sleepers all the time. That’s about it really, wedding, engagement and eternity rings worn now and again, not all at once.

Greyduster Wed 04-Mar-20 19:01:13

I’ve never bought a lot of costume jewellery, but I do have some very good jewellery that I seldom get the opportunity to wear. The piece I wear most often is a Blue John pendant set in silver. I have a few pieces of Blue John, but this particular stone has been cut in such a way that it has a very modern look. But my most cherished “jewellery” item is a string of tiny yellow beads that my GS bought for me from a Paris flea market on a school trip. I wear it a lot, not round my neck, but wrapped around my wrist! It ties me to him?.

Hetty58 Wed 04-Mar-20 19:04:05

I never wear mine these days. I must sort out my hoard and either sell it on Ebay or take it to the charity shops.

kittylester Wed 04-Mar-20 19:12:52

I have some 'proper jewellery' that i wear all the time - wedding, engagement and eternity rings plus a lovely ring that Dh designed for our 40th. Also wear 3 silver bangles all the time. Never a watch!

I also have three good rings which I rarely wear because they are in the safe!

I have loads of necklaces in lots of different colours and styles ranging from very, very cheap to fairly expensive. I love them! My best friend has lots too so between us we can manage most eventualities. grin

I was just thinking I need to re-organize my jewellery. I have a jumble of earrings in my jewellery box with costume, some silver picked up on holidays, and quite good gold with gems.
Having to root through the glass beads and silver to find the pearls is just not ideal! On my jobs list.

My DH added some small hooks to the side of my dresser mirror to hand my costume necklaces, not that I have too many. The proper gold/silver chains with pendants have a spot in my jewellery box.

I mostly wear good rings, but will swap out earrings. Cheaper ones I will wear only for a day, but will leave in pearls or gold hoops for a week at a time.

I have a drawer full of boxes with chains and pendants and necklaces and bracelets and earrings and more earrings and rings.i wear the same saphire and diamond small pendant and a pair of diamond stud earrings every day .The rest only sees the light of day when my GD 's want to inspect it or when we get all the chains out to untangle them.

Theres a fairy lives here who tangles chains for fun. Some dont come out of the box year on year apart from untangle day .The small pendant I do wear was one of a pair of earrings given to me by my mum for my 50th birthday.I lost one of the pair the first time I wore them so had the pendant made from the survivor ,the stud earrings were also for my 50th from my OH .That fairy ? Shes the same one that tangles the christmas lights!

DoraMarr Wed 04-Mar-20 22:13:37

Oh, I know that fairy, she’s the one who steals one of a pair of earrings. Then, when you have given up hope of finding it, and have disposed of the odd one ( I have friend who recycles odd earrings) she puts the lost one back. ?

grannyqueenie Wed 04-Mar-20 22:26:54

I never leave the house without a necklace of some sort, earrings and now added to that a silver bracelet for our 50th anniversary. I’ve even been known to turn back on the odd occasion when I forget to put them on/in! Most of it is pretty inexpensive, a mixture of gifts and things I’ve bought myself. Two of my gds used to take great delight in carefully examining it all and telling me exactly which items they’d like to have “if you die, granny!” Now they’re old enough to realise that dying would actually mean I’m not here anymore, they’re a bit less insistent! ?

I have just sent a large bag of costume jewellery (necklaces and bracelets) to the charity shop today. I don't think I had worn any of them for a number of years. I prefer to wear now the simple gold jewellery that DH bought me. My ears are pierced twice as well - I wear gold studs every day and add another pair of (usually) gold ear-rings if I'm going out.
I had a fairy too who spirited away a beautiful diamond stud ear-ring, (given to me by late DH) but of course I kept the odd one, and then DGD found that the fairy had hidden the other one between the carpet and the skirting board! I was so happy!

Dollymac Wed 04-Mar-20 23:08:58

I did wear lots of costume jewellery when I was at work. My granddaughters love to rifle through it, playing jewellery shops
Nowadays, I wear my wedding ring and pearl stud earrings daily
So basically I have not much interest in jewels (as the girls call them)

harrigran Thu 05-Mar-20 08:15:39

I do not have any costume jewellery so wear my good stuff all the time. Always have a gold necklace and bracelet or watch on and wear rings too. I never wear earrings as my ears are not pierced and clip ons are uncomfortable.

Nortsat46 Thu 05-Mar-20 08:46:06

I love jewellery and have a lot. I buy better quality pieces and save for them. I always ask my partner to buy me jewellery for my birthday and Ch***tmas.

I don’t wear more than three pieces at a time, earrings, ring and watch, or necklace, bracelet and earrings etc. I think it’s important that I don’t look like a Chr***tmas tree.
I buy large, contemporary pieces and I really like Monica Vinader’s jewellery.

Missfoodlove Thu 05-Mar-20 08:59:59

I have some beautiful jewellery, mainly inherited.
My most treasured piece is a Victorian crystal heart with a silver bee, I wear it on a thick silver chain but originally would have been on a velvet choker or silk rope.
I love it so much, it belonged to my husbands grandmother who left it to my late MIL, she never wore it.
I feel it’s so special and whenever I put it in it raises my spirits.
An antique dealer once noticed it at an event, he gave me his card and asked if I would sell.
I hope I will always have it.

I have a jewellery box inherited from my mother, she set such high store by it. Those were the days when carpets, fur coats, china, jewellery and such like were so important and were considered family heirlooms. Now, my children absolutely don´t want the persian carpets or the ornate dinner service. Their homes are clean and airy, without stuffy sofas and moth-eaten carpets, china is plain white and put through the dishwasher. Times move on. I permanently wear a pair of diamond studs, I have always hated droopy earings, on account of my mother always wearing them. I love beads and have a huge collection. My favourite is a string of pearls given to me by my parents.

Teetime Thu 05-Mar-20 09:22:22

I keep meaning to sort mine out I have lots of beads and chunky things- I will get round today/ soon.
