TV in these difficult times

DH and I have said the same thing!
What a great opportunity for them to gain some 'Brownie points'
A decent film each afternoon?
Perhaps a musical?

Also please could they lay off the funeral plans, insurance to help the family when I die, incontinence pants, vaginal dryness and equity release adverts in between programmes? I feel we are depressed enough without them

Think we have seen a lot of these ad nauseam. Maybe time to look at some lesser known films and programmes.

There are so many brilliant lost series from the past which were just excellent. Anyone remember The Riff Raff Element and Robin of Sherwood? I'm sure there are plenty more. Maybe they will appear on BritBox one day but this has not yet been rolled out fully.

Some of the old series which we remember so fondly would look very dated if we saw them now.

The Forsyte Saga (original) comes to mind.
The Lotus Eaters.
The Plane Makers.
The Power Game.

These were all the 1960’s, so have probably been taped over.

There was one late 70’s, early 80’s, about a Scottish businessman with a wife and mistress and problem sons, can’t think of title, will look it up. Wouldn’t mind seeing it again, will come back with name.

The series I was thinking of was ‘Mackenzie’, 1980, it was by Andrea Newman.
That reminds me, what about seeing the original ‘Bouquet of Barbed Wire’, also by her, a must-see back in the day.

It was Mackenzie. The actor that played the main character’s son and my son went to the same playgroup!

I wonder what happened to him, can’t think he’s been in much else since. I can’t even remember his name.

I’d like more comedy. The complete series of The Good Life would be fun. It might be available on DVD, but I think it would get a good tv audience.

Can I just add that radio 4 extra runs lots of old classic comedies and plays/serials throughout the day. Worth a listen, as I’m sure there would be something to suit your taste.

Grandma70s , the Good Life is on Britbox, which was recommended on here when I said I’d like to see Upstairs Downstairs. I intended to take the 30 days free, but saw the Good Life, Vicar of Dibley, Absolutely Fabulous, and loads of David Attenborough. Well worth £5.99 a month!

I have discovered the archive section on Iplayer. loads of old programmes on there.

I’ve come across some programmes from the past on Dave. Mainly comedies.
I thought Spooks might seem dated but it’s fine. Some of the ‘enemies’ have changed over the years. Main problem is that it’s addictive and could keep you up very late. Or you could start watching earlier!
Did take us 10 minutes to find bbc iPlayer as both our minds had blanked but we got there in the end.

I can't remember the last time I switched my tv set on but yesterday, due to having no internet connection all day and well into the evening, I switched it on. Gordon Bennett! Games show programmes, selling stuff programmes, endless mindless Australian & American soap programmes and even more repeats of programmes..... it was worse than I remembered! I was seriously thinking of getting rid of it altogether and saving on a tv licence but I do occassionly dip into a BBC iplayer documentary and I need a license for that. It made me appreciate internet connectivity very much more.

A lot of the old BBC and ITV programmes are on Britbox.

We should get a petition up for this and let them know what we choose eh?

Yes Brit box costs I think £5.95 a month I did consider this?

A lot of programmes are on YouTube. Bouquet of Barbed Wire is (or was).

I'd love to see Brideshead Revisited again and also I Claudius.

One thing I think the Beeb should play again is World at War. I know it's been on other channels sporadically but it's quite hard to see all of it.

There are lots of things on iPlayer as well.

I was really amazed to see the cruise adverts. Cruise anyone? I thought not!

I agree I think the BBC must be sulking or something they must have something better than they are offering now in the archives. Glad I'm not the only one who remembers The Riff Raff Element, The Hustle was always great.

If you have Netflix try 'Safe' - gripping.

BradfordLass, I don’t have a TV. In normal times, I wouldn’t bother. But I like seeing lives outside of CV now. Makes me feel like it’s still going on, out there somewhere.

Brideshead Revisited is on Britbox. You can have a 30 day free trial, then it is £5.99 a month. They also have all Downton and The Jewel in the Crown.

Have found some of the continued adverts. both on tv and on radio stations like LBC, look /sound a little surreal in the present circumstances.
I have a humax and record many programmes, usually far more than I ever get the chance to watch, so am now trying to free up more space on it by catching up on things. Still have the whole of the last series of Poldark to watch!!!
I have been saying, almost since this crisis began that the media are fuelling the panic and feeling of hopelessness with their constant, almost all day, coverage of CV19.
Even those trying to run 'Good News' items about it are not really helping. I do wish that the news items on CV19 were severely limited - it really helps no-one to being told all day, every day the same small bits of information.
Should be no more than ten minutes morning, mid-day, early evening and late night - with just a news flash if any really new information comes to light,.
As Soaps will be stopping shortly, would love to see their normal slots filled with repeats from their very beginnings - I know a lot of these show on other channels, but it would be a good use of those times and keep people interested, for when they do return to normal.
Everyone has their own form of preferred escapism - for me it is anything to do with Star Trek and some other Sci-Fi programmes. Fortunately, there are channels which have shown these and I have a lot on regular record.
A good mixture of films, dramas, old serials, to try to cove many peoples tastes. What about repeats of Tomorrows World, bit if fun there for us all.
