It's in the back of my mind when I'm on here that some of us have disappeared since the onset of C19. Who are we missing?

fatgran57 Wed 27-May-20 23:04:14

Yes - I have posted a few times about missing members - in particular MOnica and now Gabriella.

They are both in a very vulnerable age group and stopped posting quite suddenly.

This is and will happen to gransnet members, as we have no way really of letting our families have our details and posting a note letting other members know if anything has happened to us.

On two occasions I recall family have let us know when sadly a member had died, but usually we will not know.

I’m missing M0nica and GabriellaG .

Thank you GagaJo it’s worrying .

I am missing others too x

gillybob Wed 27-May-20 23:05:37

Spooky X posts with you fatgran x

merlotgran Wed 27-May-20 23:08:38

Posters often say they are taking a break from Gransnet but when they don't reappear it's a bit worrying.

EllanVannin Wed 27-May-20 23:09:57

If you go back to posts from the beginning of the year there are quite a few missing.

EllanVannin Wed 27-May-20 23:10:59

POGS. Henetha to name a couple.

mamaa Wed 27-May-20 23:21:10

gabriella resurfaced on another thread a few days ago with a name which linked to GG but Ive forgotten where I read it now sorry. Another poster remarked then that her ‘disguise’ or words to that effect wasn’t very good and in true GG fashion she replied with both barrels!

merlotgran Wed 27-May-20 23:24:59

Blimey! I thought that was another missing GG.

I've always been rubbish at working out who is back and who isn't. grin

Oopsminty Wed 27-May-20 23:26:22

POGS.

I used to like their posts.

MissAdventure Wed 27-May-20 23:32:55

I think we'll have to get people to put in a request for annual leave if they want to go swanning off. smile

I always think of people when I'm nodding off, now I can't remember who they are!

gillybob Wed 27-May-20 23:38:18

I’ve always been myself ( the same name) on Gransnet since 2011 but I know a few people like to name change every now and again . Trouble is I struggle to keep track .

I hope our missing GN friends are all okay .

Curlywhirly Wed 27-May-20 23:48:02

Oh Gillybob I thought you couldn't name change on GN? Obviously, I'm wrong!!

NotSpaghetti Wed 27-May-20 23:53:05

M0nica was on the “Less deaths due to cancer” thread on 14th April.
I think that’s the last time I noticed her.
I hope she’s ok.

NotSpaghetti Wed 27-May-20 23:55:55

Oh, and then on the 19th on the “Where is Dominic Cummings?” thread.

fatgran57 Thu 28-May-20 01:53:44

mamaa please tell us what the other thread was! I wonder who sussed out her disguise - I have a name in mind grin

Gilly great minds think alike!!

Any bodgers about ? thread

sharon103 Thu 28-May-20 02:43:33

Another gran I don't see posting.
lovebeigecardigan

Calendargirl Thu 28-May-20 06:41:46

Might also be that so many threads are variations on a similar theme, and GN just doesn’t seem as interesting as it once was.

So some posters don’t bother posting.

That is preferable to them being ill.

Curlywhirly Thu 28-May-20 07:06:46

sharon I think lovebeigecardigans was on the sewing thread a couple of days ago.

I can’t keep up when people change their names and others often seem to know who they are - but don’t say (of course). When people go missing its often just after they’ve been picked on, but I’m never sure whether they’ve actually gone or just morphed. There are a few new (to me) names appearing who seem familiar which makes me wonder ....

Marydoll Thu 28-May-20 07:27:38

I was led to believe that the poster, posting as GGumpteenth was not Gabriella, as I too initially thought.
Another Gransnetter put me right.

However, it's not for me to say who has changed their name, but it did make me realise that it's not a good idea to speculate, it can cause all sorts of bother, when a post is attributed to the wrong poster.

Posters change user names for a variety of reasons. That's their business. However, it does cause me some unease when someone disappears, but sometimes posters withdraw for health or family reasons or they have had just enough of the nastiness on GN.

sodapop Thu 28-May-20 08:49:45

I agree Calendargirl so many threads on similar themes, it's boring.

I do hope that all missing posters are well though, maybe they will read this thread and be in touch.

Oldwoman70 Thu 28-May-20 09:38:48

I know some members have decided not to post, or even look at, GN because so many threads descend into bickering. In fact one GN has told me she is currently avoiding the site because of the "nasty, backbiting, childish and downright unpleasant posts" by some GNs.

JenniferEccles Thu 28-May-20 09:51:44

And, dare I say it, there are a few who I wish *would *disappear from GN.

I’m thinking of one or two who appear virtually daily on the Politics thread, starting thread after thread posting the same boring predictable rants about the government.

It’s a great shame that it’s often the more interesting posters who disappear.
