I am so pleased this morning to wake up to wet weather. The sun has been great but I missed the rain. It's good for the garden and mine looks greener already but I also just love the rain. Is that weird?

Elegran Wed 03-Jun-20 10:12:59

It is so pleasant to lie in bed under the coombe ceiling and listen to the rain washing the slates!

Not yet. Still waiting for rain in South West as only had a tiny amount so far. Save lugging full watering cans around and maybe keep idiots off the beach.

Callistemon Wed 03-Jun-20 10:14:38

But not enough yet
Just enough so far to bring the roots to the surface!

Yes i am looking forward to some rain, my poor lawns are looking very parched. It will be good for my veggie patch as well and save me getting the hose pipe out every other day. Plus of course refill our water resourses.

Not weird at all Trisher perfectly unweird after all this fantastically hot weather - we badly need the rain - bring it on I say. It's not raining here yet on the Suffolk coast but is overcast and a (for me) nice temperature. In an ideal world I would love it to rain gently and steadily from 10pm until 6am every night - wishful thinking. grin

If only! Another south west resident here, and all we've had is a smear of mizzle sad

Squiffy Wed 03-Jun-20 10:21:25

I can smell the rain in the air, but it hasn't arrived yet. Our water butts need a top-up! Seeing so much of the sun was lovely, but if only it hadn't been so hot!

CraftyGranny Wed 03-Jun-20 10:26:01

Looks like it is here in the NW until Sunday, according to Accuweather

gillybob Wed 03-Jun-20 10:29:17

We’ve had rain for most of the night and it’s still raining now . Looks set to last a week or longer . The temperature has dropped considerably too. Here in the NE we haven’t had wall to wall sunshine for months like many other regions have so “no” I’m not pleased to see the rain . We see plenty of it as it is .

Callistemon Wed 03-Jun-20 10:31:43

Goodness gillybob, I always thought the west was wettest and the east coasts much drier.

GardenerGran Wed 03-Jun-20 10:33:48

Yes, delighted my rain dancing has produced results at last! Garden and allotment will be much happier...

GardenerGran Wed 03-Jun-20 10:35:08

Although my birthday Saturday looks set to be cold and wet so not delighted about that but can’t have it all ways I suppose..

craftyone Wed 03-Jun-20 10:36:54

not much but I watered all my pots and troughs last night, up with the lark to water vine weavil nematodes in, just in case. I have had some rain since and am liking the cooler temperatures. SW

No! I has planned to visit my Mum in her care home, not seen her since March 22nd. The visit can only take place in dry, sunny weather as I would stand in the garden while mum was on a first floor balcony - with no covering! The forecast here in the NW is for rain until next week so I have to wait.

Witzend Wed 03-Jun-20 10:46:24

Send some down here please! (Outer SW London)

Having lived in deserts for many years, I still really appreciate rain, though admittedly it can sometimes be a bit too much of a good thing.
I used to teach English to young adults and on one very rare occasion when we had rain, they all rushed outside to enjoy it. They called it ‘Allah’s bounty’.

Grandma70s Wed 03-Jun-20 10:54:50

I’m delighted! I don’t like hot sunny weather for more than two or three days, unlike most people.

Ailsa43 Wed 03-Jun-20 10:57:57

NO rain here.. still really warm but less sun today for the first time in many weeks, but I wish it would rain, my lawn is yellow and brittle now

Pantglas2 Wed 03-Jun-20 10:59:18

Yes Trisher definitely weird - ?. I do understand the garden thing but why can’t it just rain at night while most of us are asleep and not bothered? Then we could have lovely sunny days to enjoy ?

Smileless2012 Wed 03-Jun-20 11:04:11

I know what you mean gillybob we're in the NE too and although we've had some lovely weather, not as much as other regions so it's a 'no' from me about the rain.

henetha Wed 03-Jun-20 11:04:51

It's only light rain so far here in Devon, but I am absolutely delighted and hope it gets heavier, -preferrably overnight of course, don't want to spoil people's days.
We really do need it, the ground is so dry and I'm fed up with watering.

dragonfly46 Wed 03-Jun-20 11:08:18

Yes I am happy to see the rain. I like a variation in weather and to be honest the sun had got a little boring.

JenniferEccles Wed 03-Jun-20 11:08:48

I had high hopes for rain here in the Home Counties but nothing so far.

It’s cooler and cloudy but they don’t look like rain bearing clouds sadly.

We have had the sprinkler on the lawns most evenings now for weeks and we have been watering the plants too.
We are on a water meter so will brace ourselves when the bill comes in!

The weatherman explained the other evening about how the position of the jet stream has moved further north which allows high pressure to build and block our normal weather fronts from coming in from the south west.

trisher Wed 03-Jun-20 11:11:37

I'm in the NE as well still delighted to look out this morning and see wet roads and roofs. It hasn't been as hot but it has been hotter than usual. Not much rain and think it has stopped but I hope there is more (does this mean I am very weird?
