Do You Choose Style or Comfort?

I have shoes I keep, although I doubt I shall wear them again except in front of a mirror when I try a dress on. I adored the Mary Jane style and they looked so pretty with a dress.
The reason is I just don’t feel safe and balanced wearing heels out for long now I’m in my 60’s.

Have you found that your styles has/have had to change as you became older?

Comfort every time. I would not even remotely consider wearing such shoes!

I choose comfort. Hardly ever wear heels theses days mostly due to having pins in my toes. I do think they give a certain something to your outfit though.

Wasn't it Victoria Wood who said that when you look in a shoe shop window and think 'they look comfy' you know you're getting old!

In which case, I was old before I was old!!

Comfort definitely, but the fashion at the moment doesn't mean high heels. If you notice, lots of fashion photos show pretty summer dresses with white trainers/tennis shoes. Looks great. There are also nice flat sandals with plenty of support. Have a search around the internet. Just cos we're a certain age, doesn't mean we have to be frumpy or in pain!

Squiffy I adored the satire of Victoria Wood and miss her humour so much.
I’m thinking about Dolly and Jean in dinnerladies talking about balcony bra’s! So funny.

Especially since my two new knees it's comfort all the way for me!

When I was teaching I always wore heels and skirts. Looking at my wardrobe now, it's mainly flat shoes and boots and the only skirts are winter ones worn with boots. I actually wore a dress and heels for a girls meal out one evening and felt like Dick Emery as I wobbled towards the restaurant. It's now "comfort" all the way. blush

Comfort every time, but that doesn’t mean they have to look fuddy duddy there are some lovely styles around

Comfy every time but with a wedge heel as I'm short and feel I need the extra inches, also I'm used to them couldn't wear flat, I find the wedge ideal.

Always comfort first for me. I usually shop at Hotter and they do have a bit of style to them, especially the very comfy Mary Janes.

Puzzler61 Fri 05-Jun-20 11:45:28

That’s helpful Jess , thanks I’ll look.
I’m not ready to give up the Mary Janes, especially when you say they the Hotter ones are comfy. I’ll have to lose at least 2 inches heel height on my Clark’s ones pictured.

I used to wear all the latest fashions in shoes when they first came out. Back in the 1970s I had platform shoes and boots which I fell off quite often and had to give them up when I was pregnant, as I got scary! About 8 years I fell and twisted my ankle and it has never been the same since so I now go for comfort. Hotter shoes are at the top of my list now, so comfy.

“Marriage is like an old shoe, not very glamorous but comfortable”.

Puzzler61 Fri 05-Jun-20 11:58:01

twinnytwin I find it easier to buy sandals.
I have Rieker anti stress sandals that are low and have several designs/colours. They suit my feet and can wear them all day.
These are the pair I got since lockdown.

Jane10 Fri 05-Jun-20 12:11:05

These are gorgeous Puzzler61. I'm a Reiker fan too.

It’s possible to get comfort and style. You just have to look harder. I couldn’t wear ugly shoes and although I can’t wear high heels any more I do have nice shoes.

Rosalyn69 Fri 05-Jun-20 12:14:37

Puzzler61. They are nice. ?

Lucca Fri 05-Jun-20 12:26:49

Does it have to be either/or ?

Puzzler61 Fri 05-Jun-20 12:43:14

No Lucca ?
If you have good feet you have much more freedom of choice. My feet are troubled by bunions and metatarsalgia unfortunately, and they don’t tolerate heels or narrow toes of shoes.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 05-Jun-20 12:49:28

I have shoes and boots varying from flat to very high, wedges, block heel and stilletoes.

The heels are worn on evenings out and are known as car to bar shoes and whilst I can stand in them and walk for short a distance I am clinging on to them for dear life ?????

JenniferEccles Fri 05-Jun-20 13:04:48

Yes it is possible to have both.

We are all different though in our tastes. For instance I am not a fan of trainers especially when they are teamed with a pretty floaty dress or skirt as I think they ruin the look. Plenty do wear them though.

As soon as the shops are open I will look for some lightweight summer shoes with a low heel to wear on cooler, showery days.

There is talk of reducing the two metre distancing rule to fall in line with the rest of Europe which will help enormously especially with restaurants etc possibly opening in a few weeks.

Goood that white trainers are fashionable. I wear them with laces mostly undone and the tongue sticks out and hides the oedema in my feet. Best of all they are comfortable and cheap and washable.

BladeAnnie Fri 05-Jun-20 13:39:51

Comfort all the way here too,!! I had an ankle fusion and hind foot reconstruction 2 years ago so my foot and ankle literally do not move. Good job I was always a jeans and trainers kind of girl!!

Kalu Fri 05-Jun-20 14:28:52

Comfort for me. I have canvas type loafers in various colours to match with same colour jeggings. This style seems to be my uniform these days. I do have black patent and nude 3inch court heels but goodness know when I will ever wear them again.
