Yes, I saw the title ‘Weed shoots to top of gardening world’ in this mornings Times. I read it expecting to discover a plant once considered a weed had changed status and was now something to be desired in gardens!

We knew 2 Doctors, I was called Dr.Hacker and the other one was Dr.Death although he had put a comma into his name- Dr De’ath. Not sure it helped though.

When I was a child our doctors surgery had doctors Hird, Gass and Basham. I kid you not.

We had a teacher where I worked whose nAme was so appropriate that parents didn’t believe their children when told. I can’t say it as it would be a giveaway

As an unabashed lifelong nameist, I greatly enjoyed seeing the political posters for one local election candidate. He was called Dick Bond, which sounded like a special substance they might keep in the cupboard in A&E!

And, by the same puerile token, while I greatly regret the present turmoil in Ulster politics, I feel `I would have some difficulty in voting for someone called Edwin Poots.....

Some years ago, three ladies with surnames Hassall, Bottom and Mallet ran a Junior Choir. Members delighted in saying, “If we give them any Hassall, we might be hit on the Bottom with a Mallet!”

Two prominent Scottish politicians are noble fish, Salmond and Sturgeon.

OK, it’s fiction, but I’ve always liked Anthony Trollope’s names for various firms - Messrs. Slow and Bideawhile (solicitors - plus ca change!) and Sugarscraps and Stewem for a firm of overpriced caterers.
I dare say there are others I’ve forgotten.

I know it’s fiction too, but I always like Private Eye’s firm of solicitors,Sue, Grabbit and Run

We had a friend whose surname was Duck, father was Donald. He was not amused when stopped by the police and they didn’t believe him

Apparently there is an Estate Agents called Doolittle and Dalley - remembering past experience with agents I think it is very apt!

Somehow when I heard the name of the N.Ireland minister
several weeks ago a Mr. Edwin Poots I thought to myself
what a name. Obviously he did not go down to well and he resigned or was voted out yesterday.

There used to be a lovely kind hearted lady that worked for the R.S.P.C.A. she was called Mrs Pratt. (oh dear)

geekesse Sat 19-Jun-21 13:12:27

The registrar at the sexual diseases clinic many years ago was called Dr Kinghorn.

I had a client once whose name was Mr Hanger and his father was called Cliff. Fortunately, he wasn't a mountaineer wink.
