Good morning from a bright and warm E Kent. We are promised a “cool” 30C today after the scorching, murderous 33C of yesterday. I hate this heat!

grandmafrench , I hung a wet sheet across the window last night. It made the night much more tolerable.

I’m glad you enjoy the cycling Mick, DH loves it as much for the scenery as fo4 the actual racing.

I had hoped to have very little to do yesterday, but ended up sitting down only by the evening. All the usual stuff, changing beds, doing the washing, shopping, cooking...

I enrolled in one of the WI online courses which seemed interesting, it was very disappointing. The tutor talked too much and only to her friend. Never mind, it did give me something to do with my DGDs next week.

Hope those in distress are getting on ok. Stay safe.

Morning Mick from a cool Spain - we’ve sent some ?over to Blighty!

Some shopping ? this morning and if I’m back in time will meet friends for coffee before lunch and that is the sum of my weekend! Looking forward to reading, watching more of Dirty John and Breaking Bad and just chilling on the patio while DH will sun ☀️ himself on the roof terrace, just meeting up at mealtimes!

Hope everyone enjoys their weekend whatever they’re doing x

Good Morning everyone from Severnside. It’s warm already and I’ve got a chamber pot this morning.

I only had a few things to iron yesterday and it was very uncomfortable doing it with the heat.
I have to go into town this morning but apart from that I don’t think I’ll be doing much.....I’ll have a one of Urmstongran’s #lazy gran days.

Take care all and enjoy whatever you do and don’t forget your hat ?

Gelisajams Sat 08-Aug-20 06:34:50

Good morning from Morecambe Bay where it promises to be another warm day. Glad it is dry as we have 3 year old GD staying until tomorrow. She slept until 5.45 so not too bad. DH got up with her. They dote on each other! She can do no wrong in his eyes although she is good natured and quite placid. We need to find somewhere quiet to take her - our trips out this week haven’t been too successful as they have been crowded so we have just come straight home. Wishing everyone a good weekend, but take care and stay safe ?

Good morning Mick and All from a cooler Worcs (with a little breeze).
Thinking of Granmaretto : I hope you got a restful night and that your DH is recovering gently in hospital.
Marydoll thinking of you too and hoping your energy returns and you’re back to “yourself” really soon. I’m waiting to hear what your surprise is/was ? ! ?

I’ve got a return appointment to the Optician’s this morning to collect 2 pairs of specs. That outing will be the main event of my day and the rest of it will be just pottering. The heat slows me down to a standstill!

Keep safe everyone and have the best day you can ?

Grandmabatty Sat 08-Aug-20 06:39:47

Good morning All. I'm off for a day painting workshop in my art tutor's garden. I hope everyone has a good day.

Scentia Sat 08-Aug-20 06:43:23

Good Morning all from East Yorkshire.
We had such a lovely walk yesterday but boy was it hot and that made the hills very tough. The hotel we are in is so lovely and they are very accommodating of my vegan diet. I will definitely come here again.
Today we are headed back home but will go the long way round to make the most of this sunshine on the motorbike. I have enjoyed being a pillion for the first time in years, but it does make your bottom a bit numb as I don’t like to move too much, whereas if I was riding my own bike I would be shuffling my bum and standing on the pegs to ease the numbness!! If I carry on with this pillion riding he will have to get a better seat!
I hope everyone has a good day today and enjoy this sunshine ☀️
Take care of yourselves.

Morning Mick, morning All from a very misty corner of Somerset. Hope it clears for an early beach walk before a general faffing day at home. Special thoughts for those with health or other worries. Be gentle with yourselves everyone.

Morning All

Cooler this morning here in the north of Norfolk. It was just a little too warm for us yesterday. Our outside thermometer registered 44c when it was in the sun!! All I really wanted to do was drive to our local beach and sit in the sea, but the continuous stream of cars heading that way on the main road suggested this wasn't a sensible option!

Nothing exciting planned for today apart from a minimum of ironing which I'll do in a minute (if I can resist getting side-tracked by the 'Active' heading), and the man coming to service the boiler at some point.

Have a relaxing day Everyone.

NanKate Sat 08-Aug-20 07:15:56

Morning Mick and All.

A blistering hot day in prospect here in South Bucks. Wish the prospect was cooler as we have our DS and DGSs arriving today for a week. We have them booked the boys into 3 days of football nearby and hope they can use the indoor facilities as it will be too hot outside from about 11.00 am. Each day.

Your cycling is all messed up Mick and so is my tennis.

Susan56 Sat 08-Aug-20 07:19:11

Good morning from Shropshire.Another hot day forecast although yesterday wasn’t as hot as forecast.

Yesterday didn’t turn out as planned. We had just packed the car ready to take DGD home when DD messaged to say Henry was under the weather so could DGD stay another night. She was more than happy to stay.I had found a magic set when clearing out earlier in lockdown so DH taught her a couple of tricks which she is looking forward to showing her mummy and daddy. We are now taking her home at lunchtime today.

Looking forward to hearing Marydoll’s exciting news.

??for you gilly re the contract and hope your husband is doing well.

Grammaretto,I hope your husband had a comfortable night and is continuing to get better and that you managed a restful night too?

Good wishes to all and special thoughts to all with illness and other worries?

Marydoll Sat 08-Aug-20 07:27:39

Good morning all from a sunny ☀️Glasgow.
Nothing much planned today, apart from my daughter getting married in our garden!???

It is not the wedding we planned, but it is the wedding she wants, given all that is happening in the world just now. She is afraid of another lockdown.
We only managed to get the license on Thursday after a number of hiccups, it's been a particularly stressful week. ?
The license been amended twice, due to errors in the schedule. ?
Do you realize how difficult it is to get hold of a registrar during a pandemic? ?

My daughter doesn't want a big fuss and plans not to wear her beautiful dress, she can do that at a later date. As a result, I have been raking through my wardrobe for something not too weddingy. I'm embarrassed to say, I had a choice of dresses ( bargains still with labels attached ) from pre Covid shopping sorties. ?

It will only be DH, me, number two son and his fiancée, who will be there, along with my neighbours trying to see through the fence. ?️‍♀️

I don't want to say too much, but my elder son is not in a very good place just now and is refusing to come, which means my beloved granddaughter won't be there either. My heart has been breaking for days over this, literally as well as metaphorically.

Because of my still, crtical vulnerability to Covid, my elder son is convinced that I'm putting my self at risk and will die , by having the celebrant (a stranger) in our garden. There is absolutely no reasoning with him, it's been a very sad week. Time is running out for me and all I long for is to see my daughter married and happy. My son just can't accept this and has been burying his head in the sand, regarding how unwell I am. ?

My wonderful SIL has explained to his family that he does not want to put me at risk by asking them and although upset, they understand why they can't come.
We could not chosen a better husband for our daughter.

So there you have it my dear, virtual friends. A bittersweet day for us all. I shall put on my big girl's pants, fix a huge smile on my face, and make it a very special day for my DD and SIL.

Sending hugs to all our missing friends, I think of you often. Have the best day you can everyone.

Having read this over, it could be mistaken for one of those hoax posts, we have been discussing in the last few days!?

Marydoll Sat 08-Aug-20 07:28:57

I meant to send my very best wishes to Grammaretto and her husband. ?

kittylester Sat 08-Aug-20 07:38:00

Morning all from a hot, sticky North Leicestershire though there is a bit of a breeze coming through the open bedroom window.

I need to plant a couple of things this morning and move a Penstemon. Then I will go to the village to buy some flowers.

Our trip to JL was totally unsuccessful as the fabric we wanted was discontinued - this is the 3rd try. Apparently we are between seasons and are advised to wait until the end of August. They did, however, have the air con on. Town was really busy but the store itself was very quiet.

Best wishes to everyone with concerns and worries.

brook2704 Sat 08-Aug-20 07:38:03

Good morning everyone from a lovely sunny Inverness. Yesterday was a bit cloudy but it stayed very warm and we had some light rain in the evening which was really refreshing.
Thank you for sending the sunshine pantglas ?
marydoll what a lovely day you’re going to have for your DD wedding! Very big congratulations to the happy couple and please post some photos! And the sun is shining ??❤️❤️
A much quieter day planned for me today as the two DGC are safely back at home - I always breathe a sigh of relief when they’re home safely and not suffered any mishaps when we’ve been looking after them!
DH is working at his little part time job this morning so I’m going to have a leisurely breakfast in the conservatory and then potter in the garden.

Hope everyone finds something to enjoy today and take care whatever the day brings ?

Susan56 Sat 08-Aug-20 07:38:33

Marydoll,as you say a bittersweet day for you?

MellowYellow Sat 08-Aug-20 07:38:46

Oh Marydoll what a week you've had! I can only wish you the very best for today. At least the sun will shine down on you all on a very special but poignant occasion.

Pantglas2 Sat 08-Aug-20 07:39:55

How lovely for you Marydoll in spite of it not being totally as you would wish! Enjoy your day as best you can and it’ll all be sorted eventually.....’ All shall be well and all manner of things shall be well etc.?

Grandmabatty Sat 08-Aug-20 07:40:54

marydoll huge congratulations to your daughter and her fiance and soon to be husband. It'll be a lovely day despite your understandable worry about your son. Your daughter will look beautiful, I'm quite sure. Have a wonderful day. X

kittylester Sat 08-Aug-20 07:41:42

Bittersweet indeed marydoll. I hope you have the best day possible.

MellowYellow Sat 08-Aug-20 07:41:55

As for me in south Cornwall there's a lovely breeze coming through my bedroom window and the sky is blue but I'll be avoiding the beach again! May laze on my patio with a book.

Gelisajams Sat 08-Aug-20 07:49:55

Have a lovely day Marydoll

Sar53 Sat 08-Aug-20 07:51:32

Good morning from a cloudy Essex by the sea, we even had a few spots of rain earlier.
Yesterday was very hot, we spent a few hours sitting on the grass by the sea, had our picnic lunch, then came home. Later we sat in the shade of a local pub garden. By 9.30 we were both wilting so went to bed.
I'm not sure what we will be doing today. It is my youngest daughter's birthday and we will be seeing her tomorrow.
Marydoll I hope you all have a wonderful day, congratulations to your daughter. I know you have all waited a long time for the wedding.
Have the best Saturday you can and stay safe everyone xx

Puzzler61 Sat 08-Aug-20 07:53:33

Oohh wedding bells Marydoll! Splendid !
Have a momentous Day, you’ll all be dressed up and ready to enjoy the nuptials that are to come.
It’s fabulous news and you have sprung a surprise on us ???
Wishing the young couple a long and happy life - they have you and Mr Marydoll to look up to for inspiration and advice about the art of being wed.
