I’ve just noticed there are three programmes coming on next wed thurs, and fri, about Diana, on channel 5, as I was a great fan I will be tuning in, but have to say I will mute the interview with Paul Burrell having his say! Will anyone else be watching it?

grumppa Sun 09-Aug-20 13:52:26

Not if I can avoid them.

Oopsminty Sun 09-Aug-20 13:54:10

Not me, TrendyNannie6

I never was much of a fan

But I hope you enjoy them!

Elegran Sun 09-Aug-20 14:10:22

I won't be watching them. The cult of Saint Diana leaves me cold.

joannapiano Sun 09-Aug-20 14:19:19

Not a fan, either.

Teetime Sun 09-Aug-20 14:27:30

Me too Elegran.

I get really fed up with the nimber of times this woman is dragged out for entertainment value.I was never a fan, she's not someone I would like my children or GC to look up to ,adultery,.manipulation and selfishness are not traits I admire. So ,no I wont be watching, the Sainted Diana was a myth and I'm too old to blieve in fairy tales .

I enjoyed last night's programmes on The Queen and Prince Charles, so I might watch the ones about Diana.

Anniebach Sun 09-Aug-20 14:36:38

Not for me, that Panorama interview again , ‘ there were 3 in
the marriage’, no there were at least 7

Jaxjacky Sun 09-Aug-20 14:42:08

Not likely!

crazyH Sun 09-Aug-20 14:47:01

I will Trendy - I loved Diana.
Watched the one yesterday about the Queen and Prince Charles - any thing on the Royal family, I watch. They are so far removed from us mortals, that I am curious and love to delve into their lives .....

Ellianne Sun 09-Aug-20 14:49:14

Thank you Trendy.

merlotgran Sun 09-Aug-20 14:53:13

There won't be anything new. We've heard it all ad nauseam.

tanith Sun 09-Aug-20 14:57:25

Nothing new to see here I’m afraid it’ll be old news rehashed for entertainment I’m sure her boys would rather her memory was left in peace.

Elegran Sun 09-Aug-20 15:06:50

They are mortals too, crazyh, not gods and goddesses. They do all the silly things that we mere mortals do. Like the rest of us, some of them are nice people it would be great to know better, some are nasty Bs and better avoided and some are just getting on with surviving the hazards of their lives. Not a soap.

I don't watch what celebrities are up to either.

Yes, that Panorama interview (yeugh) peeking coyly through her thick eyelashes while delivering the spontaneous script that had been carefully rehearsed in front of the mirror.

aggie Sun 09-Aug-20 15:11:20

In the name of the wee man , let the woman rest in peace ! Why drag up all that stale news ?

Urmstongran Sun 09-Aug-20 15:24:05

Nope. I’m over her now. The scales fell from my eyes years ago.

Urmstongran Sun 09-Aug-20 15:27:47

P.s. apart from 2 photos - one when she had returned from a royal tour and crouched down to fling her arms wide for William (? And Harry, not sure) to run into. Such joy on her face.

And the other was seeing her genuinely happy (and wet) on a log flume at Thorpe Park with her boys. Her eyes were shining and her laughter was infectious.

Elegran Sun 09-Aug-20 15:37:03

She should have married some well-meaning but dim county landowner who thought he had won first prize getting her, and Charles should have married Camilla first time round, divorced or no. But that wasn't how things was played then. The water has gone under the bridge and there is no pumping it back again, so they should stop rehashing the whole story and let her rest in peace. The myth gets further from reality every time it is rehashed.

Elegran Sun 09-Aug-20 15:37:54

things were

Elegran Sun 09-Aug-20 15:40:55

What is the motivation in scheduling these programmes now? Who made the decision and why? Could it be that Queen Elizabeth's age and the likelihood that Charles will soon become king has a bearing on it?

Ellianne Sun 09-Aug-20 15:44:55

I'm not sure I watch these programmes to go over all the Diana stories again, but more because they remind me of my own youth and where I was at that time. I was at the famous firework party in Hyde Park the night before the wedding and I was on the streets the next day. I'm sad the fairytale went so badly wrong. Even my dad alluded to the royal wedding in his father of the bride speech a few months later, so Diana has a special place in my memory.

MissAdventure Sun 09-Aug-20 15:51:59

No point avoiding the programme but filling up a thread about the woman, surely?

ninathenana Sun 09-Aug-20 15:56:04

"The cult of Saint Diana, leaves me cold"
Couldn't have put it better Elegran

Riverwalk Sun 09-Aug-20 16:05:08

I'm not a royalist or a particular fan of Diana but it's sad to think that she died so young and would be about 60 now.

Interesting that most posters want her memory swept under the carpet. In the overall scheme of things she was no better or worse than the rest of them!

I'm more aware of her comings and goings than other members of the RF because I was pregnant and off work ill on her wedding day and watched the whole thing; a friend was a midwife at the Lindo Wing for both births; and I worked around the corner from Buckingham Palace so the day after she died a few of us from the office went round to BP to 'be there'.

So I know her timeline, but have little idea of when the Queen Mother died, or Charles' second marriage, etc.

Also, when you see footage of her at the beginning it's startling how young she was.
