A polite, but heartfelt request.?

Please, please, PLEASE can people refrain from copying and pasting EVERY previous response to their posts before adding a reply!

All members can read the responses, and probably don't want or need to read them twice.

This is not meant to cause offence, just a request to make threads easier to read and more concise.

Thank you.

i don't see the problem.
it is highlighted, quotations are, so just jump over them to read the new comment if it bothers you.

Charleygirl5 Fri 14-Aug-20 22:37:28

phoenix this was mentioned on the thread in question and was totally ignored- especially by the poster.

phoenix Fri 14-Aug-20 22:40:53

welback it seems impossible to go to the reply without seeing the c&p'd part.

Charleygirl correct on both counts, sigh.

DonnaFHSheridan Fri 14-Aug-20 22:41:51

It isn't copy and paste, it's the quote button. X

Chewbacca Fri 14-Aug-20 22:44:29

I agree Phoenix it does make reading the posts very tedious and it is completely unnecessary unless the post being referred to is several posts further back. I also tried to ask, very nicely, for it to stop but was ignored.

phoenix Fri 14-Aug-20 22:45:08

Donna I don't care what method it is, it is unnecessary.

Marydoll Fri 14-Aug-20 22:45:16

Phoenix I totally agree. It drives me mad, especially if a very long post is copied.
I have already mentioned this on another thread.

lemongrove Fri 14-Aug-20 22:45:28

The quote facility is good.....but only if you need to make crystal clear which post you are replying to, otherwise it’s quote abuse!!!!

Yep.

It's supposed to make life easier and I use it quite a lot to answer specific comments.

I think it's a reasonable idea.

Marydoll Fri 14-Aug-20 22:48:59

It's reasonable if used sensibly, not on every single post by a poster.☹️

phoenix Fri 14-Aug-20 22:49:13

lemongrove love the term "quote abuse" grin could also be regarded as a type of narci.......?

Chewbacca Fri 14-Aug-20 22:53:23

The only time I can see it being of use is when you've come onto a thread, read through it and want to comment on a specific post that was posted some time ago. By quoting every post, it becomes a duplicated muddle. But if it gives some people pleasure, there it is.

Starblaze Fri 14-Aug-20 22:54:47

I like it

phoenix Fri 14-Aug-20 23:08:54

Starblaze but what about when it's over used, as has been the case?

Yes, as Chewbacca says, very useful when replying to a Specific post/comment, then it is indeed handy, but...........

rosecarmel Fri 14-Aug-20 23:10:22

I like it as well-

Takes less time to hit one button than to copy and paste and then make it bold-

Also .. members can't unintentionally misquote what someone wrote using the quote button- Its a practical feature and convenient-

rosecarmel Fri 14-Aug-20 23:12:48

It can't be overused- ?

Too many people have assumed that posts that appeared after theirs was directed at them but wasn't!

BlueSky Fri 14-Aug-20 23:12:59

Agree Chewbacca I tend to use it a lot as I'm too lazy to repeat the point I agree with!

By the way can quotes be edited? I mean if I only wanted to quote a paragraph or sentence?

Marydoll Sat 15-Aug-20 00:05:33

That's the problem, it seems to be all or nothing!

Can I have my head back please? You seem to have bitten it offsmilex

Spice101 Sat 15-Aug-20 00:29:06

I've not used it because I didn't know how until reading this thread but I think it is quite useful and don't see an issue with it. Each to their own I guess.

Yes, as Chewbacca says, very useful when replying to a Specific post/comment, then it is indeed handy, but...........

I haven't honestly seen it overused or at least not to the point I found it annoying. I understand it annoys you if overused though. It annoys me when people say "I don't agree with {username}" because it just feels personal and aggressive.. Just give your own opinion, I certainly don't give opinion as fact.

PS. Sorry lol
