I have full custody of two of my grandchildren and was just wondering if anyone else did?

Hello!
The only person I can think of is the grandmother of a friend I made years ago on a Gardening forum. She was well grown up and with children of her own, but I remember her telling us that her GM had to fight the 'authorities' to be allowed to legally adopt her and her sibs.
'They' told her GM that putting the children in a Home would be less 'confusing' for them?
Fortunately the GM robustly fought their corner through the Courts.
But you say that you have full custody of two of your grands. So there are others?

I have had my GD since age of 4, full parental responsibility ,she is now aged 21,and still with me.

I had a prolonged fight through the high court,to obtain this .

Amazing, downtoearth, so you had to fight your GD's corner too?shock
I couldn't understand the rationale when my friend told me, all those years ago, but it seems that nothing's changed? Just....why?

My daughter had died in suspicious circumtances Alishka , GD's father was found responsible for her taking her own life, which then set off a very complicated, round of crown court ,county court, coroners court, and high court proceedings over 6 years, due to his imprisonment.

Downtoearth that must have been a terrible time for you, thank goodness your granddaughter had you to fight for her.
You are a very brave person to go through all that and then help others on here.

Downtoearth that sounds terrible, your granddaughter is very lucky to have you.

@Alishka
Yes, I have full custody of two of my grandchildren, they are twins aged 6. My son has 2 kids of his own aswell. The twins mum, my daughter, couldn't look after them after issues with her boyfriend (their dad) so I have full custody of them.

Are you struggling Ethel is very different to bringing up your own children, especially if there are " issues" ...we still struggle

Many grandparents have legal care of their grandchildren. Sometimes because parents have died, sometimes because the family courts, after extensive assessments, decide the children can’t safely grow up with their birth parents. Grandparents, or other relatives will always be first consideration over non relatives like adopters or foster carers

That's a particularly unpleasant way to describe being a Grandparent BustyMary. Especially when the OP and others here are full time carers/in a parental rather than grandparent role because of tragic circumstances.

What an crude and unhelpful post BustyMary. Yuk.

BustyMary strange choice of username . With your mindset, thank god you don’t have any grandchildren!
No idea why you felt the need to add your nasty, crude post. Go off and give your head a wobble.

To all who have gone through heartbreak and difficult times to obtain custody of their GC. Those dear GC are so lucky to have you in their corner.
