Hi all,
I am constipated with stomach pains and my usual leg pains so I don't think I'm going to have a nice time tonightsad.

I have to be at work for 9am tomorrow but if I don't sleep then I'm phoning in sick, I don't care, I'm not having another day of dragging myself to work on no sleep and feeling awful.

If I am up all night I'll be available for a chat with anyone else who is unfortunately also up. X

Have you any prunes in the house FH? A few of those should sort you out. When I get pains in my legs it French helps to elevate them.

Hi FH. Sorry you're not feeling so good. If you do a search on GN you'll find lots of advice on constipation which may be of help. Hope you get some sleep.

Don’t know where ‘French’ came from, I thought I typed ‘often’!

Agree with Aldom FH. Hope you manage to sleep. There is nothing worse than being awake when you are tired.

Prunes are really good for constipation and you dont need many. Try taking them regularly at breakfast time FH. Have you got a long pillow you can use in bed to raise and help with your legs?

I have always found dried apricots to be even better than prunes and yes a pillow under your legs does help. Hope you sleep

BlueSky Tue 29-Sep-20 22:59:02

Hi FH prune juice is even better but obviously you don’t have any at the moment. Yes the body pillow is quite helpful to find a comfortable position. You are right in phoning in sick if you can’t sleep, you don’t get any medals anyway. Hope you manage some sleep x

Thanks all... I've taken a Laxido powder, so I'm hoping it works, I feel awful. X

Returnof...a few years ago one night, I suffered from awful stomach pains. It lasted the whole night, my stomach bloated to the size of a 9month pregnancy -it felt like it was goi g to burst. The culprit was a glass of my friend's home made fruit juice, with fruits she grew in her garden. She was an a eccentric 80year old and her hygiene wasn't the best. To cut a long short. The pain and bloating lasted me for days . I was diagnosed with IBS. I can honestly tell you, that drink was the cause of it. I do hope you'll feel better soon.

I have 2 relatives with that, one just doubles over and the other sobs in pain with a hot water bottle and makes my cry. That sounds awful. Hugs x

I managed to sleep but the Laxido hasn't taken effect and I am terrified to take another one as I am busy tomorrow. X

Are you keeping your fluid intake up? Do you eat a lot of fruit and vegetables ?Also I believe exercise helps.

I also seem to remember reading that painkillers containing codeine can cause problems.

'My husband has suffered from a recent bout of constipation and our very good pharmacist recommended "Fybogel" sachets of an orange drink, it's quite mild apparently, the user needs to take it for a couple of days before the effects are felt, but does work I'm told. I hope you manage to sort it out, I have sleepless nights they're a pain in the neck and sometimes so tired the next day depending on how restless I've been during the night.

Good luck.

Yes, I do drink a lot, I eat a lot of potatoes and watermelon and occasionally broccoli. I also like frozen berries.
I only take Paracetamol. X

Thanks... I have Laxido orange sachets, they are disgusting but worth it. I suffered from a thing called Faecal Impaction last year, it was dreadful, I thought I was going to die, it stopped me from sleeping and I was hallucinating from lack of sleep and I was in agony.
I'm better now though, apart from much less severe constipation. X

Aldom Wed 30-Sep-20 13:51:12

Look after yourself FH. Please get medical advice if the problem persists. I know how painful and potentially dangerous faecal impaction is because my late husband was hospitalised with it. Sending you good wishes and a hug.

Hi, thanks for your concerns, but I think I should be fine once I have been to the toilet. It's not faecal impaction as I had diarrhoea with that. Hugs. X

I was then going to have my lunch, changed my mind now ?

Lexisgranny Wed 30-Sep-20 14:48:57

FH that combination must have been quite something.

Charleygirl5 Wed 30-Sep-20 14:57:13

Far too much information about your bowel habits for laydees like me.

Esspee Wed 30-Sep-20 15:06:12

I see nobody has suggested senna tablets. Useful in emergencies.

Callistemon Wed 30-Sep-20 15:44:19

Dried pears/prunes
Sprouts (but leave the room if you get wind first!)
Drink lots of water, preferably warm.

Do they still sell Ex-Lax?

Ask GN to move this to the health forum. More appropriate place
