Who has a lovely speaking voice, and why?

No, I most certainly have not been told I have a nice voice - nor an unpleasant one for that matter!

My voice is hardly mellifluous - in fact it's a bit common.

But I am very clear

I have a horrible deep male sounding voice. Used to hate the old answer machines, can't bear to listen to my own voice.

In France a waiter once told me that I had a lovely French accent, I said thank you very much did he understand me ok? He said , No , not really........As I had used the wrong words.?

Since I've lived in England I have many times been told that I have a lovely voice or sometimes a lovely accent.

Then I am asked where I come from. I say "Glasgow" and have more than once had the reaction "Oh, I thought you must have come from Edinburgh".

I know I am supposed to take this as a compliment, but I'don't!

I used to read translations I did of films démonstrating what our company did. On listening back to them I found my voice rather monotonous.

At the school where I worked one of the teachers had a really awful squeaky grating voice. I felt sorry for her students having to listen to it. Added to which she seemed to just not like children at all.....

It is all relevant to which areas of Glasgow/Edinburgh you were raised. varian. I am Glaswegian but have been asked many times if I am English.
I haven’t however been mistaken for an Edinburger yet!?

I have been told by many former Provençal neighbours my accent is Parisian with a sometimes faint Dutch, German, Scottish accent possibly, which it would be, as Paris is where I mainly learned to speak French.

I honestly sound like a child.
I'm 48
I also have a broad Black Country accent, despite having lived else where for years.

I don't think that it's unpleasant
I would never want to change anything about me.

For ten years I answered a help line amongst other things for distressed people and was told I had a kind caring voice so I was happy with that

I was once told that I could earn money on a sex chat line!

I do have the ability to pitch it lower

A woman told me recently that her husband had heard a talk I gave to a local society and had reported back to her that I had a very sexy voice. It amused us both.

On the other hand a Frenchman told me in my teens that I had the most English French accent he had ever heard. To be honest he had a very French English accent, but I was too polite to tell him.

A few years ago the landlord, his wife, and their grown son were upstairs doing some bodging DIY.

The wife came onto the balcony, and we were having a little chat.

The son came out to join us and suddenly blurted out "oh my god, your voice is amazing
So sexy!!"

His mum looked staggered, then hit him and said "you're married!!"

He said he wasn't trying to chat me up, just stating a fact.

It was all a bit uncomfortable, really, and I haven't got an amazing voice.

I was born in London and moved to Surrey aged 13, parents paid for elocution lessons, I now live in Essex, not sure the lessons worked ??

I've been told I've got a young voice - in fact, I once rang about a job in a hotel and the person asked me if I'm over 18! (I'm 61)

My voice is the product of many years of elocution lessons that my mother forced on me.
I hated them.
I am a good mimic as a result so every cloud...!
My husband has a fabulous voice, about 25 years ago he called a gunsmith to order some cartridges, he was told the order had been prepared and a driver would deliver later that day.
He asked “ who do you think I am”?
The Duke of Westminster was the reply!!!

People i enjoy listening to are: Nigel Havers and Rupert Penry Jones. Paddy McGuinness, however, makes an appalling noise. How on earth he was given a job presenting \I will never know. Even worse than Tess Daly and Vernon Kay!

I've spent 50+ years speaking on the phone to clients, many of whom have been elderly, hard of hearing or who don't have English as their first language, and so I've developed "a telephone voice" which I'm told has very clear diction and enunciation. I was quite proud of this until I answered the phone at work one day and said the name of our company and "How can I help you?" There was a brief silence and then the caller said, "Oh, its one of those bloody answer phones," and hung up!

I'd love to have a light, young voice.

I think I sound like a man on the answer phone!
And I still have a Midlands accent, apparently, although I left about 50 years ago and did have elocution lessons at school.

I sound like the blooming queen mother! My mother sent me to elocution lessons when I was little. I hate hearing my recorded voice. It makes me want to cringe.

Bizarrely I have a very deep speaking voice, but am a soprano when I sing.
