I have just answered a call from 020 3468 5640 on my mobile claiming to be from HMRC. Having heard of these scam calls I cut it off before it "got nasty" and I have blocked the number. Thought I should warn GNetters to do likewise.

Not a lot of point blocking the number, they just change it. I am still waiting for HMRC to come and arrest me after 3 calls telling me they will because I didn't press 1 grin

The best way to deal with scammers is to have a call blocker on your phone. Mine is with Talktalk. I never receive unsolicited calls.

The best way to deal with HMRC scam calls is to log onto your tax account via Govt Gateway. You can check in minutes.

Thank you for highlighting this as unfortunately these scams are on the increase.

I would echo what Aldom said.
We have done exactly the same with TalkTalk and the nuisance calls are no more.

Aldom and JenniferEccles this came in on my mobile phone so all I could do was block. I have BT call blocker on my landline and having no nuisance calls, particularly at dinner time, is wonderful.

Strangely enough I have never had any scam calls on my mobile phone only the landline before I set up the blocker.
I will be on my guard for the mobile then!

I had the age old "I hear you've been in an accident......." on my mobile only yesterday.

Me, too, ninathenana. Obviously it’s doing the rounds.

I reported the phone number that called me to HMRC.

DH got the HMRC call on the landline and then his mobile within minutes.
