Evening all, having a bit of wobble!

I seem to be (to borrow the phrase) "going gentle into that long dark night", in that I really CBA with make up, clothes (well, of course I wear them, after all I wouldn't want to frighten anybody!) and of course I shower every day, but other than that, well, neh!

So, what can I do to help me "rage, rage against the dying of the light"

Please bear in mind the CBA thing mentioned above.

Galaxy Wed 28-Oct-20 22:37:32

Does it matter. I spent today in shorts, baggy top and giant rabbit slippers.

EllanVannin Wed 28-Oct-20 22:37:58

You and me too phoenix.

Lucca Wed 28-Oct-20 22:39:42

Just go with it. It will, pass I’m sure and is quite possibly a Covid effect. Showered is good !!

Callistemon Wed 28-Oct-20 22:39:55

Look at the positives phoenix

It does your skin good to go without makeup.
I'm wearing all my old clothes then I'll throw them out later.
I'm saving money not buying clothes or makeup.
My hair is shocking since I took the scissors to it the other day, but, looking on the bright side, I saved £45.

I really need new specs though.

Callistemon Wed 28-Oct-20 22:40:41

Oh - my nails are better since I stopped wearing nail varnish smile

phoenix Wed 28-Oct-20 22:43:38

Oh thank you all! I feel so much better already! smile

Now, if I could just feel motivated to shave my legs, currently I might pass for a hobbit.

Phoenix I work from home and there are some days I get up, have a shower and then work all day in scruffy leggings and sweatshirt, no bra. I long since gave up on makeup, in fact, it's been so long since I used it, I'm not sure I could properly apply it now. I'm firmly in the CBA range.

You're clean, clothed, fed and comfortable? What's the problem?

Juliet27 Wed 28-Oct-20 22:45:20

The situation we’re in has made me realise just how few clothes I really need.

Galaxy Wed 28-Oct-20 22:48:06

I think it's very freeing, I heard trinny or susannah bollocking on the other day about how no woman should wear joggers and I just felt really glad that that kind of thing wasnt taking up my headspace.

Marydoll Wed 28-Oct-20 22:50:06

Think of the time you are saving not bothering, Phoenix.

MissAdventure Wed 28-Oct-20 22:52:20

grin galaxy
That's a great phrase.
I feel the same, by the way.

Just wear trousers all the time.

Valels Wed 28-Oct-20 22:53:32

So pleased to read this, thought it was just me!!

Callistemon Wed 28-Oct-20 22:54:52

My hair is really awful, though.

I need tips on DIY from Nicola Sturgeon.

annodomini Wed 28-Oct-20 22:58:28

Woolly jumpers and cords - what more do I need? My legs aren't as hairy as they once were, but no-one can see them anyway. Just be yourself, phoenix.

phoenix Wed 28-Oct-20 22:58:41

Again, many thanks.

I've decided that bras are the garment of the devil! I only wear one to actually give me some sort of bosom, being very lacking in that department blush (Asda "One size bigger")

Don't bother indoors, take it off with gay abandon once I get home. Not sure who Gay Abandon is, or why she is in my house, but we seem to divest ourselves of our cumbersome under garments at the same time!

allsortsofbags Wed 28-Oct-20 23:02:30

Best suggestion I have is try for a while just sitting with your CBA, do as little as possible until you get boarded.

Give yourself a couple of weeks unless you feel yourself slipping into an even sadder place.

Sometimes sticking with those CBA times until our mojo returns works better than trying to force ourselves to "get on with ..."

I know it sounds counter productive but it can work.

If however if you think you are heading for depression that's a different situation and needs a different approach. Get help, but I'm sure you are very capable of doing that.

I think a lot of people are feeling like CBA. It's the weather, sorter days, C19 on the rise, being limited in how we can live life just now and no real end in sight.

I'm into a whole lot of CBA myself and many of my friends are also saying they CBA. Things like what's the point, nowhere to go, no one to see and nothing worth planning for. Christmas and family get togethers aren't likely to happen, plans have gone to the wall and so on.

I hope this is only a phase and it passes soon but I don't think you are on your own with the CBA but it's still an awful place to be.

Take Care of yourself whatever route you choose to take.

I believe I may have met Gay Abandon in about 1982 (see unplanned pregnancy thread)

Snap- so glad I’m not the only one. Decided to sort through my jewellery today ( yes, inventing jobs to avoid the ones which really need doing!) and it dawned on me that I hadn’t really worn anything apart from my wedding ring ( which I don’t remove) and sleeper earrings since March. Not even a watch! Had no cause to wear any bling or get dressed up...
As for clothes I’m having to force myself to put something decent on ( not that I’d wear anything indecent you understand?) rather than look scruffy.
Also realised have no cash at all in my purse... haven’t used any for ages so can’t remember when I ran out!
I was thinking about going to get some tomorrow but the weather forecast is for rain so I’ll probably stay home, again!

Absolutely this. I bought a triple wardrobe when I moved house last year. Well that was a waste of money! I have racks of formal office suits, shirts, stiletto heel shoes and formal coats and jackets. Never worn since March and never will be again. Formal evening wear that I've spent £££ on; never need them again. The charity shops will be inundated.

Callistemon Wed 28-Oct-20 23:27:37

I hung on to my mother of the bride hat in case I ever got invited to Buckingham Paalace grin although I did throw the stilettos out to the charity shop (worn for about 3 hours).

I love this thread. I have found my people. ?

MawB2 Wed 28-Oct-20 23:46:05

Well I am not sure I should be encouraging you in these habits.
Take a leaf out of an article aimed at young wives in the 50’s
Before your husband comes home
Prepare yourself. Take 15 minutes to rest so you'll be refreshed when he arrives. Touch up your make-up, put a ribbon in your hair and be fresh-looking. He has just been with a lot of work-weary people.
Be a little gay and a little more interesting for him. His boring day may need a lift and one of your duties is to provide it

So remember that ribbon in your hair and all will be well . gringrin
