Has anyone else found a “tasty treat“ they have discovered or made themselves, since Covid started to invade our lives? My DH and I found Pasteis de Nata at Lidl. Delicious individual portuguese custard tarts in flaky pastry.
We have them twice a week (don’t even question the calories). Made fresh daily at the Lidl bakery, 49 pence each.
(Do try them if they sound like your kind of thing. Mmmmm....)

Does anyone suffer flytipping in their area.

Quite agree Puzzler one of my favourite treats brings Portugal to me as we've had to forgo this year.

Illte I didn’t try one when I went to Portugal. I will if I ever
get there again.
Charley what is your favourite treat?

I agree Puzzler61 the Lidl Pasteis de Nata are yummy! Their bakery is very good - croissants, Danish pastries - dangerous place to go!

The best custard tarts I ever tasted were from a deli shop in Rouen near to the cathedral. Real melt in the mouth and moreish. Friend and I sat on a bench nearby to enjoy every mouthful. Never tasted their like since.

Luckily I’m not keen on sweet stuff so my treats have been pasties from the local bakery! They have traditional as well as newer fillings, I used to try to avoid them because of the fat content but at the moment I need some comfort food!

Puzzler61 Thu 29-Oct-20 12:28:35

Are you in Cornwall by any chance Bluesky? We love their pasties too ?
Food tastes great when you eat outdoors, on a bench, nice view, having a chat. Though by the sea you have to beware of those pesky thieving seagulls!

My dil in Gibraltar buys these every time they pop across the border into Spain or Portugal I’ve yet to try them although my son assures me they often eat them before they get home. Maybe I’ll pop to Lidl’s in the morning.

Agree. Where I live there is a very famous cafe And patisserie but to be honest any town in France has at least one patisserie just as good, probably better !!

Katyj Thu 29-Oct-20 16:17:25

I’ve just found these too Puzzler very tasty ?

PollyDolly Thu 29-Oct-20 16:22:07

Been to the original bakery in Lisbon, oh what a delight! Nothing quite like an original Belem Tart!

Callistemon Thu 29-Oct-20 16:25:06

I haven't been to Lidl for months but yes, I do like them.

Off to find a recipe now (but it will probably say 'makes 1 dozen tarts')

Callistemon Thu 29-Oct-20 16:26:14

I need puff pastry
sad

AGAA4 Thu 29-Oct-20 16:30:32

They look delicious Puzzler. My kind of treat.

Puzzler61 Thu 29-Oct-20 17:11:22

I just looked at the photo I posted - it looks a little like ET’s head with the tarts being huge eyes ?
I promise I’m drinking nothing stronger than apple spritzer!
