How big is your handbag?

Vacuous? Probably, but I'm struggling to move up a size.

I know it's stupid, but I have a bag ready, and just need to change all the stuff over, but I keep putting it off!

It was the last thing I thought of last night, too.

Choose an outfit that will go with your new handbag, and take them for a walk tomorrow! smile

I've got about 30 handbags.
They are my 'thing'
Unfortunately they are all redundant or on furlough at the moment.
Where are you going?

MissAdventure Tue 01-Dec-20 18:25:06

My handbags have all been black and serviceable (my predictive text tried to say "despicable!")

My current one is rather frivolously decorated with beige stitching around the flap bit.

Got rid of mine about a year ago! Now only use for occasions.

MissAdventure Tue 01-Dec-20 18:26:28

Oh I'm not going anywhere, fanny, it's to carry stuff around in. blush

I'm always impressed by women who go for a night out (with their husbands who probably have keys, money) without a handbag. I have a friend who always looks gorgeous and is very confident. We've been out with her and her DH and she hasn't carried a bag.
I need lipstick, tissues, a hairbrush, phone, keys, purse, a bottle of foundation (horrible skin which usually needs re-touching), compact mirror, perfume. How do they do it?

Kate1949 Tue 01-Dec-20 18:38:54

And reading glasses!

Mines small, think large purse with a long strap. It takes my cards, money, a photo and my phone fits in too I don’t carry ‘stuff’ car keys in pocket.

Callistemon Tue 01-Dec-20 18:42:09

They're what my friend called 'little bag women', Kate1949.
She meant in control of their lives and their menfolk.

I usually ended up with everyone else's rubbish in mine,
too.

Lots of big handbags, I've ditched them temporarily during the lockdown for the purpose of walking, handbags are a hinderance. I have a large purse like Radley thing I can hang on my wrist, contains phone, cards, mask of course and keys.

Callistemon Tue 01-Dec-20 18:43:54

Oh, sorry, to everyone who carries a little bag, it was just my friend's view.
I have done sometimes on a night out.

It would be nice to carry a handbag anywhere at the moment.

Kate1949 Tue 01-Dec-20 18:44:12

That's it exactly Callistemon.

Kate1949 Tue 01-Dec-20 18:47:17

Yes I've sometimes carried a small bag to a nice 'do' and crammed as much in as I could (and made use of DH's pockets) but no bag?

PollyDolly Tue 01-Dec-20 18:50:06

On the subject of everyday bags, never big enough!

MamaCaz Tue 01-Dec-20 18:52:08

I can't really remember how big my handbag is - I haven't seen or needed it since last March, and certainly can't say I've missed it!

(Though I do have a casual tote that has accompanied me on any unavoidable outings since then.)

Puzzler61 Tue 01-Dec-20 18:54:41

Big, and heavier since March. It’s large, patterned oilcloth so waterproof. Inside is: antibactial gel, face masks, a pair of disposable gloves, hairbrush, wallet purse, specs, bunch of keys, an inhaler, lip balm, tissues, a pen, hand cream ..... think that’s about it.

MrsThreadgoode Tue 01-Dec-20 18:55:33

I have one of those small bags which hold (almost) all essential items, I lift the whole thing out and pop it into another bag when I fancy a change.
Now I have masks, sanitizer and since it got colder gloves, hat and scarf in as well.
The furthest my bag has been lately is to the chemists.

Pittcity Tue 01-Dec-20 18:55:45

I have a small leather backpack. Plenty of room for all the usual stuff plus the mask and sanitiser that now needs to be taken everywhere.

My bag is like the black hole of Calcutta, it is large(ish) with everything but the kitchen sink in it. It has too many pockets, which I thought would be a good thing, but things I have forgotten about keep appearing. My DC used to call me “Head in the Handbag” when they were little as I was always rummaging about in it (still am) Only good thing about it is it’s a cross body and I love having my hands free.
When I gadabout in the evening (oh happy remembered days) I swop to a small bag, which is quite a palaver as I still try to cram too much in it.
I do admire elegant types who can cope with a small bag. They are on a level with those women who can tie a scarf around their neck and not look like a loaf of bread.

“Can I put my keys (car, house etc) in your bag ?” From son or gentleman caller. So irritating ?

polyester57 Tue 01-Dec-20 19:12:52

A friend used to say that a handbag needs to be able to hold a loaf of bread and a bottle of wine

kircubbin2000 Tue 01-Dec-20 19:19:21

I rarely use a bag, just keep bank card in purse in pocket. If I've gone out in the car I might bring a tiny shoulder bag as I'm afraid car keys could fall out of pocket.

dragonfly46 Tue 01-Dec-20 19:24:02

I have just one bag. It is medium size black leather with red lining and can hold my IPad. It was very expensive but my 50th Wedding Anniversary present from DH.

cornergran Tue 01-Dec-20 20:42:24

Far too many bags here ranging from the tiny to the large. All
colours of the rainbow. Don’t dare count. tchblush currently using a tiny cross body bag, just big enough for sanitiser, mask and my cards.
