I didn’t believe it!

One of the interesting things about setting up home with a physisist is the way in which I’m being educated in stuff I’ve never given a thought to.

Here is today’s conversation/random observation that came out of nowhere?

Stand in front of the bathroom mirror. How much of your body can you see? Take a few steps back. Will you see more/less/ the same?

(I know it’s a bit sad to post stuff like this, but honestly it’s the most interesting thing in my life right now)

Hmm now that's got me thinking and I know that at some point today I will end up standing in front of the bathroom mirror and taking a couple of steps back grin

Last time I looked in the mirror I felt I’d aged ten years since the arrival of this virus ?

It makes no difference where I stand my flipping mother is always between me and the mirror!!

Since I've lost a bit of weight, I have acquired jowls and my wrinkles are more noticeable. Sod's law!

You’re lucky. When I look in the mirror my father looks back!

Kittye Sun 17-Jan-21 13:49:19

Juliet27 that’s exactly how I feel ?

I really like the promising way this is going. I'm having a flight of fancy as to the various points to ponder will emerge. Please do keep sharing, P and a big thank you for this opener.

You see more, don't you?

FannyCornforth Sun 17-Jan-21 15:11:59

Or is that too obvious? confused

AGAA4 Sun 17-Jan-21 15:21:57

Yes you do see more Fanny and that's why I don't do it.

When I look in the mirror now, I see my older sister. She died last year (no, actually, it was in 2019) and in fact I find that comforting, as I loved her very much. ❤️

GillT57 Sun 17-Jan-21 15:29:26

being short sighted, I find that I look better the further away from the mirror I am. Law of diminishing returns perhaps?

MamaCaz Sun 17-Jan-21 15:52:39

But have I understood this correctly, or am I taking it too literally and missing the point of the thread - Peasblossom, when you said "I didn't believe it", did you mean that until now, you genuinely didn't realize that you would see more of your body in the mirror if you stood further back??

Alegrias1 Sun 17-Jan-21 16:00:52

As a physicist, I'm looking forward to seeing how this conversation develops.. wink

PollyDolly Sun 17-Jan-21 16:07:51

It would depend on if I was wearing my spectacles, if I wasn't I wouldn't see a thing wherever I stood! ??????

PollyDolly Sun 17-Jan-21 16:09:55

AGAA4

Yes you do see more Fanny and that's why I don't do it.

???? Sorry, AGAA4, I didn't realise you were addressing someone by that name!

BlueBelle Sun 17-Jan-21 16:13:48

pollydolly???
I did a double take there too

beverly10 Sun 17-Jan-21 16:14:08

I am past spending too much time in front of a mirror.Fifty years ago maybe ? when getting ready to go on a date?

tiredoldwoman Sun 17-Jan-21 16:14:32

Polly Dolly, yes , that ran through my wicked mind too ! haha !

Peasblossom Sun 17-Jan-21 16:31:39

You don’t see more. You see the same. Yes honestly.

Like I said I didn’t believe it till I did it ??

I guess that's why we have full length mirrors to see our feet!

SueDonim Sun 17-Jan-21 16:38:09

Responding to the OP, I must declare that I got a heady 17% in the last physics exam I ever took at school. grin

I am thinking that by standing close to a mirror one might, eg, see one’s head and shoulders. By standing back, one might see head, shoulders and arms, say to waist level. So you’d be seeing more of your body in the reflection, but the amount of actual mirror that is filled with your image could be less.

Am I on the right or wrong track? ?
