What do you do whilst waiting for the kettle to boil?

Generally I time it so it boils when I am ready to make a cuppa after finishing a task, but my husband stands staring out of the window while he waits.
At the very least I would be wiping down a worktop or writing a shopping list, not just hanging about.
This is not a rant, just a lighthearted chat, whilst I am waiting for the kettle to boil.

I had an old fashioned kettle that went on the gas job.
You could spring clean a room in the time it too to boil.
However it was wonderful as my husband emptied the dishwasher I. The morning whir it boiled.
It was replaced yesterday with a smart new electric model.
Yes..... the dishwasher was full this morning ?

I practice balancing on one foot or the other ? I haven’t fallen over yet.

Go to the loo? in advance of the anticipated drink, you understand

Wipe the cupboards down , especially the handles. If there are any dishes to dry or the dishwasher needs emptying I do that.

As long as DH is boiling the water to make me a coffee he can do whatever he want for the 2 minutes it takes to boil.

I’d appreciate the coffee too much to complain

I was not complaining. There is nothing wrong with looking at the garden.

Batting the cat off the worktop. The minute he hears the kettle he thinks it's a cue to be fed?

I get on with what can be done in the time it takes to boil. Wipe down a surface, put stuff away etc.

If there's tidying that needs done I do it. Otherwise its my phone..usually GN.

When my husband makes dinner he stands in front of the cooker and watches the food cooking.

First thing in the morning whilst waiting for the kettle to boil i brush my teeth, then during the day do odd bits n bobs in the kitchen.
But dh really stands their and looks at it which i find rather amusing.

Not the kettle - it's the minute it takes to reheat a cup of filter coffee in the microwave. I used to just stand there, but I've recently discovered e-cloths so now I'm wiping down the slate worktops (which my husband normally does as he's the chef and it's his kitchen) because it's so satisfying! (I'm normally not exactly house-proud.) Makes you realise how long a minute really is, and how I waste so many of them.

Putting the mugs ready and the tea/coffee/milk/sugar in them. Not that I do it often - DH likes to prepare the drinks to his liking so I'm usually sitting down reading or or on GN !

I do some standing exercises. As I make a lot of cups of tea during the day, I get quite a few exercises done without any real effort. smile

Watch it for some unknown reason

By the time I have gone upstairs, visited the loo and come back down, the kettle has boiled. I only boil as much as I need for one mug, so it's quick. One of my sons has a boiling water tap in the kitchen which makes kettles redundant.

Eat the biscuit I got out to have with the tea, so then have to choose another when the drink’s ready.

There was a cartoon knocking about years ago - The Totteringby range - where the chap boiling the kettle stares out of the window, but when the woman’s doing it, she’s emptying the dishwasher, wiping down the kitchen, feeding the cat and dog, etc.
DH seems to just open the fridge door, looks in and expects the milk to jump out for him - on the very rare occasions he manages to find the kitchen!

Anything that needs doing. Can’t stand about doing nothing.

Multi tasking
Pelvic floor or
Practice one leg balance whilst polishing mixer tap or cleaning out plug trap thingy.

All this to keep me away from the biscuit and cake tin!?

I do some yoga stretches and hip exercises. Also, I enjoy looking out of the kitchen windows. We have a wonderful view and the sky changes all the time. It's like an ever changing picture. Simple pleasures.

Smileless2012 Fri 22-Jan-21 11:36:35

I nip to the loo; always good to plan ahead isn't it Grammarettosmile.

Stand at the window and watch my neighbour doing her morning routine of sweeping her garden path.Since the leaves have long gone I am fascinated by this as I cannot see what there is to sweep.

crazyH Fri 22-Jan-21 11:41:38

Listen to Alexa

Grandma70s Fri 22-Jan-21 11:44:43

I don’t think I do anything. It only takes a few seconds. There’s only me so not much water in it. Perhaps I turn to the fridge to get the milk out.

ginny Fri 22-Jan-21 11:51:21

Nothing. We don’t have a kettle.
