The Queen has got two new corgi puppies! Just heard on the Today program.
They were a gift apparently.
I remember feeling sad for her when I heard that her last dog had died, and that for the first time in her life she was without a canine friend.
I hope that they give her majesty much comfort and joy during this pretty grim time.

Grany Fri 05-Mar-21 07:57:30

They don't have to buy anything they get given everything

25Avalon Fri 05-Mar-21 07:58:34

I hope they don’t shred too much of Windsor Castle!grin

grandmajet Fri 05-Mar-21 08:04:01

Have you never had a gift, Grany?

Iam64 Fri 05-Mar-21 08:05:14

I smiled reading this news on line earlier. It’s the first RF news to raise my spirits in a good while. The Queen has always shared her life with corgis. That scene in the opening of the Oplympics with her, two dogs and Mr Bond is a cracker.
I wonder what she will call them.

Sara1954 Fri 05-Mar-21 08:06:42

Oh Fanny, that’s a sweet story.
I’m not a dog lover, but I hope they bring her joy.

Nell8 Fri 05-Mar-21 08:10:09

Aren't corgis designed to herd by going for the ankles? I hope the puppies come with a wrangler to prevent a tripping hazard hmmsmile

Anniebach Fri 05-Mar-21 08:11:51

Wonderful, so happy for her, I would be lost without my dogs

FannyCornforth Fri 05-Mar-21 08:14:32

Iam64 ooh yes, I wonder what she will call them?

tickingbird Fri 05-Mar-21 08:15:34

I hope they bring her joy at this awful time. As for you Grany your bitterness leaps out from the screen with every anti Royal post you make!

Casdon Fri 05-Mar-21 08:15:47

I’m a dog lover, and can guarantee that whatever else is happening in your life a dog brings joy every day. Two puppies together will be a handful mind, I’m not that brave!

seacliff Fri 05-Mar-21 08:19:18

I am so pleased for the Queen, they will cheer her up.

Iam64 Fri 05-Mar-21 08:22:24

Casdon, yes two pups from the same litter will be a handful.. still, I expect the Queen will have live in expert dog handlers to assist. She’s also an expert so these pups will be properly trained from day one. Unlike the Jack Russell causing mayhem in another famous household

I'm not a royaltylover, but I think the same!
(I do have a very soft spot for the Queen though)

JenniferEccles Fri 05-Mar-21 09:46:30

It is lovely for her but a while back she was quoted as saying that at her stage of life she wouldn’t have any more puppies, so this news surprises me.

Smileless2012 Fri 05-Mar-21 09:49:18

I've just read this on a news feed and it made mesmile.

There's nothing like a puppy or two to cheer you up with that unconditional love they bring, not to mention all those cuddles.

FannyCornforth Fri 05-Mar-21 09:51:06

Jennifer, yes I thought that too

Alexa Fri 05-Mar-21 09:55:15

I too am bitter about the Queen who is too rich by far. People like her cannot have any idea what real life is like for 99.9999999 of people in the world.

Anyway I still hope she likes her puppies.

Calendargirl Fri 05-Mar-21 09:58:58

I wonder what she will call them?

Meghan and Harry?

grin

Esspee Fri 05-Mar-21 10:01:29

But you don't really do you?
Never mind...

Ellianne Fri 05-Mar-21 10:07:54

I expect once you've had dogs she came round to realising she simply couldn't live without them.
Nice news.

Mollygo Fri 05-Mar-21 10:09:18

Calendargirl that would NOT go down well in the press! ?? A friend called her dogs Nip and Tuck after a procedure!

I wish her joy with her dogs. Like everyone else, she must be feeling the frustrations of Covid and she’s also worried sick about her husband.
We saw a beautiful whippet on the shelter website the other day, but DH said we’d need to be able to run!

Elegran Fri 05-Mar-21 10:13:39

What has wealth to do with loving a pet?
I hope Grany and Alexa are equally incensed by the `wealth of those in this list (I have never heard them condemn number 10, for instance) amd don't grudge them their dogs or horses

Lots on the list are from other countries. I imagine that between them they get more money out of the economy than the Queen does. Oh, of course - they are not "immigrants", so no-one will get worked up about them!
