What I can’t do (well) but can do better.

I know we all have different abilities which makes us the lovely unique people we are. I do believe, however insignificant, we all have talents - some useful others not so.

I would love to hear what abilities or not GN’s have -

I am pretty useless with the internet- scraping along the bottom really... but.... I can soothe a crying baby to sleep in a very short time and am a dab hand with a sewing needle - how about you ?

Urmstongran Sat 06-Mar-21 16:40:59

I can’t sew or toffee. I don’t bake, craft cards, knit or garden.
I’m trying to think what I am good at....

Being a mum, grandma & a friend I think, says she modestly.
☺️

grandmajet Sat 06-Mar-21 16:48:01

I can’t toffee either, urmstongran!
I can’t knit, sew, or craft anything either.
I love gardening but I’m not good at it.
I must have been a good mum as I have four wonderful children; I have many good friends so they probably think I am one too!
The only talent I think I have is being empathetic; I was good at sitting with very sick people to give carers a break. Is that a talent?
I can’t sing, paint, play a musical instrument. I’d better stop. The list of what I can’t do is endless it seems.

I’m brilliant at everything, except being modest, I’m not so good at being modest........

grandmajet Sat 06-Mar-21 16:53:26

?

tanith Sat 06-Mar-21 16:58:51

I can’t play an instrument, sing or remember jokes. I too love to garden but I’m rubbish at planning where things should go.
I can knit and sew I think I’m a good Mum and Grandma, and nursing anyone who’s sick. I’m a good navigator if that’s a talent.

Gwenisgreat1 Sat 06-Mar-21 17:05:52

Can sew, am a dab hand with a paintbrush - any kind! can bake.
Musical instruments are torture instruments, especially the squeaks and squawks noises that come out of them - demented seagull springs to mind

All the things you can’t do, I can’t do either grandmajet. Nor can I ride a bike and I have no eye/hand coordination I don’t think I could throw a ball any distance to someone. Or kick it.
I’m feeling a bit rubbish!

I make good roast potatoes though. And I’ve a steady hand for applying liquid eyeliner.
Is that a skill?

grandmajet Sat 06-Mar-21 17:12:22

Definitely a skill Urmstongran. I can’t do it to save my life, which is a bit annoying when my eyelashes are absent due to chemo. A bit of eyeliner would help then!

No domestic skills here either and I hate gardening. I do enjoy cleaning and organising things. I do all the admin at home and run a small voluntary library when Covid allows.
I'm good at sitting on the sofa and reading.

grandmajet Sat 06-Mar-21 17:14:41

Thank you tanith, you’ve reminded me, I can navigate too. In a car, or on foot. My husband can get lost on our road (well, nearly!), so it’s a good skill to have.

Jaxjacky Sat 06-Mar-21 17:31:08

I can’t craft, knit, bake, play a musical instrument, sing or ever keep a houseplant alive. I can grow vegetables, project manage, admin, cook and...nope, that’s it. oh, I’m good at ordering stuff online that doesn’t get sent back!

Kate1949 Sat 06-Mar-21 17:31:42

I can't sew, bake, swim, drive, dance, paint. I used to knit but that was many years ago and probably wouldn't remember how now. I can't cook anything other than basic food - I make a mean roast dinner. I'm a good listener, and I hope empathetic, having been through the mill in my life. My granddaughter tells me I'm a lovely nan. That'll do.

Oopsadaisy1 Sat 06-Mar-21 17:31:54

I can’t
Swim, sink like a stone.
Make scones, they end up like stones
Play a musical instrument
Navigate, I say turn left, DH knows to turn right, (even tho I’m so damn sure it’s left) I’m always shocked that I got it wrong again.
Can’t draw to save my life
I have terrible balance due to ear problems, so I don’t ride a bike, I can, but I topple over.
Can’t make small talk, especially with people I don’t know, I just freeze.
However, my new skill is giving injections . Yesssss

crazyH Sat 06-Mar-21 17:43:07

Not good at anything, but I have been told, my Creme Caramel is second to none .....

ayse Sat 06-Mar-21 17:45:50

I sew ok, do craft stuff ok, DIY not too badly but I wish I could just do one thing really well. Jack of lots of Trades but Master of none.?

Urmstongran Sat 06-Mar-21 17:46:37

Now that’s pretty awesome crazyH!

Jaxjacky Sat 06-Mar-21 17:48:49

I’d like to make a good crème caramel, for when we’re allowed visitors, share please CrazyH

Urmstongran Sat 06-Mar-21 17:51:18

But at least you’re good enough ayse. I can’t even leave the starting grid. Oh that reminds me, I can’t change a wheel either. Himself was horrified years ago when I asked him to come and get me. Said I oughtn’t to be driving! Ha.

dustyangel Sat 06-Mar-21 17:56:28

Thank you sodapop, I too am very good at sitting on the sofa and reading, that’s a relief.
I used to be good at baking but had to give that up when I realised that I was also very good at eating my own baking. Decorating cakes too, the old fashioned way with royal icing.
I think most if not all of you are empathetic and it’s a truly valuable skill.

ayse Sat 06-Mar-21 17:57:24

Urmston thank you. It’s not so good though when you start a project and it doesn’t turn out as planned, quite often. The skill quite often doesn’t quite fit the imagination. I’m sure you must be fine at something.?

ayse Sat 06-Mar-21 17:59:45

Just now, I’m really good at watching all sorts of c**p on ? but not getting round to the really important things I have on my mental list. Never mind, there’s always tomorrow.

LauraNorder Sat 06-Mar-21 17:59:56

Apparently I’m good at disrupting.

welbeck Sat 06-Mar-21 18:00:38

why should you change a wheel; that's what you pay RAC/GreenFlag for, or KwikFit if drive-able.
