Les McKeown, Jim Steinman - more of our youth gone?

Am I allowed to say ..... never heard of them ? I think I may have been living abroad in their era?

I hadn't heard of Jim Steinman but I felt sad about Les. They were after my time but I remember all the excitement of the fans and of course their tunes were catchy.
The Rollers had a tour planned.

Loved both the Rollers and Meatloaf. I was so obsessed with the Bat out of Hell album, I wore it out and had to get a second copy. I could sing it word for word now - how sad is that.

I am sorry to hear of Les Mckeown's death. I also love Meatloaf and the Bat out of Hell Album.
BCR was part of my era.

Felt quite sad yesterday when read that Les had died.

Only a couple of years ago, we went to see him in concert at our local theatre and had a fabulous night bopping away to the old songs.
At the end of the show he said 'he was going to the bar for a cup of tea and a bourbon biscuit,
So Rock 'n' Roll' ?

Bay City Rollers and tartan mania were a big part of my youth.
My uncle had friend involved with the band and was able to get me lots memorabilia and promo discs to pass on to me.

Happy days.

I went to see the BCR when they played my home time. My first concert. Adored Les.

As for Jim Steinman. Well, the man was a genius. He wrote the vast majority of Meatloaf's Bat out of Hell. His lyrics were brilliant. Very clever chap.

Not everyone's cup of tea of course but I was a fan. He released his own album, Bad for Good. It was all so terribly dramatic at the time.

I was more of an Osmond fan tbh but i remember they all toured together with the likes of David Essex and Leo Sayer and were all good friends.

Sad to hear. I was more a fan of Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and that ilk.

I saw the Rollers a few years ago with the Osmonds (Wayne, Jay and Jimmy I think), Showaddywaddy, David Essex and somebody else who I’ve forgotten. Les was still on his game, he was great. The others, not so much I didn’t think.

I'm not a fan of the Bay City Rollers, but I do love Jim Steinman, he did so much more than Bat Out of Hell. His collaboration with Andrew Lloyd Webber on Whistle Down the Wind was genius, and Air Suppy's Making Love Out of Nothing at All, remains one of my all time favourites.

Bat Out of Hell came out when I was 16, it was the soundtrack to my youth. Paradise by the Dashboard Light, oh me. Like you Casdon, I remember all the words. A few years ago we saw Meatloaf live and sang along to all Steinman's songs.

As for BCR, I was a Derek fan. Like I said on another thread, I once sat outside Derek's childhood home in Edinburgh hoping he'd come and visit his mum. He never did.

Jim did a song on Bad for Good called, Love and Death and an American Guitar

I recall the first time I heard it and my reaction at the end.

I wasn’t a Bay City Rollers fan, although I knew Les’s name and am sorry he’s died.

I love Jim Steinman and Meat Loaf. We too saw him live at the Playhouse in Edinburgh. Once seen, never forgotten and I’m glad Meat didn’t take his ‘tap aff’! . Fabulous gig. We’ve since been having a bit of a ML-fest in this house. Dial the sound up to eleven!

I have seen Meatloaf lots of times and absolutely love Jim Steinman.

My three daughters and I used to sing Paradise by the Dashboard Light regularly while making Sunday lunch especially if there was a new boyfriend around. Sort of a Rite of Passage for them.

I once had tickets to see Meatloaf when we lived in France, but he got ill and had to cancel the concert.

Then I had tickets to see him in Edinburgh, and I flew home early from a work conference in the US so I wouldn't miss the concert. And it got cancelled while I was in the air!

Finally got to see him about 10 years ago. It was spectacular. Oh, those songs.

I'm going to look for that Steinman song Gannygangan.

I didn’t know who they were either lucca not familiar with either name
The rollers were later my daughter was into them for about a year when she was about 10;
I thought meatloafs name was Michael something or other I didn’t know he’d died I loved his voice
