Dogs on beds

I'd say not on the bed, personally.

I adore my dogs and your friend just doesn't sound like a dog person.

You carry on with your lovely girl the way you want. It's your choice.

And I certainly talk to my dogs all the time. I tend to put on an American accent. Why? No idea

I haven't had a dog for over 20 years now, but if I did have one it would be on the bed along with the cats.

I do speak the odd word of German to her too but she just tilts her head to the side !

A no from me too but I have done in the past. I put my foot down and said not anymore.

Well of course you have to talk to you dig be rude not to but not on the bed. He should have his own bed and not in you room its just not hygienic.

When I had my dog she did share my bed

There was a young vet on one of the morning programmes last week. He saw nothing wrong with pets on the bed, didn't mind his dogs licking his face but drew the line at allowing them to lick wounds.

If you like to have your dog on your bed, why not. It can be comforting and also they keep your feet warm when it's cold

DH and I are both light sleepers, our little dog is very nervous and reacts to every noise and if he slept on our bed I don’t think any of us would get much sleep. He has slept in his crate which is covered on three sides by a blanket since we first had him as a puppy. He goes in at 10pm and we never hear a peep out of him until my husband goes down at 7:30am even if there are noises such as thunder or fireworks. When we watched the tennis match the weekend before last he was later than usual and ran into his crate when we opened the door. This arrangement suits us but each to his own,

Our dogs didn't sleep on the beds, they stayed downstairs in their own beds.

But she should be a dog, not spoken to like a human

Of course you should chat to your dogs - they listen, (unlike some people), they know what you say, always look pleased when you chat and they rarely answer back.

Why not just keep the bedroom door shut. The idea of having an animal in your bed turns my stomach. If you could see all the non-human micro organisms between the fur and in the saliva maybe you wouldn't do it, but it's your choice of course. Just remember where they might have been sniffing and licking on their last walk.

My dog sleeps on my bed. I wouldn't have it any other way. I don't mind their dog germs, they don't mind my human germs. I talk to them. They're very communicative and part of the family.

Your dog, your rules, no one else's business.

It is entirely your decision. My dogs over the years slept with me and the companionship was wonderful. I can no longer physically care for a dog (walks, etc.) and miss the special love a dog shares every day.

I think you should do what every makes you, and your dog, happy. You're definitely not the only one as comments here show.
We have big dogs, over 30 kilos each, so sharing the bed is a tight squeeze. They usually only come up for 10 minutes then prefer the floor for sleeping. If my husband is away for work the dog always sleeps by my side (for protection, of course!)

She is lovely Neen I have a particular affection for long-nosed dogs, they are quite unlike “normal” dogs!

There are actually 3 threads on this? What is going on? Personally I wouldn’t have an animal on my bed but each to their own.
