When did you start feeling old?

My experience was visiting a clinic when I wanted to stop taking antidepressants. On arrival I was greeted with a sign proclaiming Psychiatric Services for the Elderly. I'm 69 and know I'm elderly, but I felt really old even though I'm young in outlook.

It hasn't happened to me yet but of course it's going to one day.

Grannybags Fri 22-Oct-21 14:47:45

I'm 69 too and the thought of being 70 next year makes me feel old.

Age has never bothered me much before as I'm lucky enough to still be fairly healthy and have a young outlook but somehow 70 sounds so much older!

Can I get back to you on that. I’m only 71.

old? what's old? i'm 81 and certainly don't feel it ( except maybe when my knee gives way when i stand up after sitting for a while!)

69 is just late middle age - surely?

On Wednesday night; I’d been standing outside for several hours in the rain while the wind whipped around me leaving me wet and freezing cold. I was with a homeless woman who was in a desperate situation and I just thought, ‘I’m actually too old for this now!’

On an urgent hospital admission to a female medical ward at the age of 92, my mother was furious to find symbols on the bathroom doors instead of words and a large sign saying 'TODAY IS TUESDAY'.

'They're all old' she hissed indignantly.

When my Aunty was in her 80s she used to say she was off to play the piano for "the old biddies" in a local care home!

ixion Fri 22-Oct-21 15:08:55

My aunt, 88, goes with her choir to sing for the 'old folk' in her 'local' one.

You do a grand job grannyactivist, younger volunteers required, hope you can find some and take a well deserved break

I'm 72 and feel exactly the same as I did when I was 20. The mirror tells me otherwise.

MamaCaz Fri 22-Oct-21 15:29:16

... When I caught sight of myself in the mirror earlier this afternoon.
I'm having a stressful day, and my goodness it shows in my face- it has put ten years on me!

rafichagran Fri 22-Oct-21 15:30:23

No not felt it yet.

AGAA4 Fri 22-Oct-21 15:33:35

Mid 70s and still don't think I am old.

kittylester Fri 22-Oct-21 16:18:00

I am only 72 and I'm not old so, although I am grateful that they care, I feel really, really old when my children feel it is safer not to visit as there is a lot of Covid in the schools that the DGC attend.

Lexisgranny Fri 22-Oct-21 16:21:33

Probably during the last eighteen months, though covid could be coincidental!

MissAdventure Fri 22-Oct-21 16:21:33

Every day since feels like an extra year.

When a young man offered me his seat on the bus and I was glad to take it!

Shelflife Fri 22-Oct-21 16:25:52

The pandemic has made me feel old!!

crazyH Fri 22-Oct-21 16:33:24

When I saw my couple of grey hairs at age about 42. I always prided myself on my long, thick, shiny, almost jet black hair. So the greys were fairly obvious. I had my hair cut in a bob, started washing a colour in, and that was the start of my ageing process. Until then I felt young ?

When I was collecting for charity door to door many years ago a pre school child looking out of the window called out to his Mum that there was an old lady at the door. I think I was about 40 smile

Teacheranne Fri 22-Oct-21 16:46:23

I’m 64 and following a TIA ( mini stroke) I had to see a consultant at The Elderly Care Unit at the local hospital! How rude!!
