It occurred to me today that it is only a couple of months or so until April, when the sail blinds go back up in the conservatory to reduce glare and heat???????

April? I love an optimist!?

I think we’re doing very well for January. I’ve had to dig out the sunglasses over the last week!

Driving to our daughters last week on the motorway looking at the surrounding hills. I remarked to my husband how drab everything is and it seems to last ages. We only get a few short months when everything is lush and green our countryside is beautiful. Roll on the spring and summer everything is brighter and it makes people happier.

Well it is drab but there are lots of bulbs coming up in the garden and today we had birds in the garden for some months. There are almost 50 swans and cygnets on the canal this year near Kings Lock. Trying to focus on positives here all without a comforting glass of wine until Feb 1st.

January could be a whole worse than drab. If drab means being snow free then that's fine by me. I will be glad to see the Spring though.

Bright sunshine in Northumberland today. Off to the beach!

SueDonim Mon 24-Jan-22 11:54:39

We’ve had plenty of sun - and beautiful sunsets - here in NE Scotland over the past week. smile

A bit dull and chilly, but so far January’s been tolerable. Just done two hours’ gardening - mowing the lawn, tidying the border edges! ?

I love this weather.
Honestly. I hate even the slightest bit of heat and can’t bare bright sunlight.
I know I’m odd.

Well, I’m the same. What IS the appeal of heat? Why would you want to feel hot and sweaty and tired?

Grandma70s ♥️
We should definitely form a little club so that we can have a moan together in the Summer. smile

Blimey down South it has been sunless cold and dreary for what seems like for ever.

Only 5 maximum today. Too cold to do much other than taking the dog for a walk.

I was married January 31st. It was the only day in January it didn’t rain that year where I lived.
I’m loving the mild weather we are currently experiencing. Our blinds are half way down to stop the glare and just as soon as my OH removes the dinner plates I’m off out to the greenhouse to do some potting up.
Not doing February here. Off to the tropics and by March I expect to return to spring.

Grey and chilly here 4C.

But the snowdrops are out, the cyclamen is bright and cheerful and other plants are flowering.
A neighbour's tree is bursting into bloom (the flowers arrive before the leaves).

If only the sun would shine ?

There is a happy medium though.

I like a temperature between 21 - 25. Not hot but a gentle heat that lets me potter in the garden, go walking and sun bathe without being too hot.

Very good point. Me too.

Here in East Yorkshire we had many sunny days last week and I too fetched out the sunglasses. I felt so much more energetic and happy. However the last 2 days have been so grey and bleugh and my mood is the same.
Roll on spring.

What are you all talking about? This was Devon last Friday lunchtime.
Many daffodils are out too and otters are playing in the river.
We had a beautiful week, but a bit grey today.

FannyCornforth Mon 24-Jan-22 12:29:47

No. The drearier the better for me. And a hint of drizzle.

FannyCornforth Mon 24-Jan-22 12:30:44

Mind you, I can take that Josieann! Otters! ?

Ali08 Mon 24-Jan-22 13:04:11

Well it IS England!!

Jaxjacky Mon 24-Jan-22 13:04:12

Grey it is down south, you’re right WW2, tedious, this day last year we had thunder snow early in the morning, that would be welcome to break up the eternal grey.

Kim19 Mon 24-Jan-22 13:22:34

Usually find January a difficult and somewhat hideous month. However, it hasn't been so awful this year (weatherwise) for me and here we are having nearly kicked it into touch. Yippee! February is kindly shorter and then March gives us our hour back. All positives for me. Onwards!

MaizieD Mon 24-Jan-22 13:27:06

Sorry, WwMk2, but we've had a succession of lovely days here in the NE. And some fabulous sunsets... Not the usual dreary January.

I'm just thinking that it won't last, though. February and March could be dire...

We’ve had some wonderful sunny clear blue skies here in Northumberland. Today is another glorious such day. Luckily we’ve not had much rain as we still await roof repairs afternoon November’s storm Arwen.
