Are women getting angrier?

Well, are we?
I’m much more relaxed generally since I retired, but I’m certainly angry with/about the current government, the cost of living crisis that is affecting so many, the proposed GRR bill (Scotland), Brexit.
More light heartedly, I’m certainly not happy that I’ve just read book nine in the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon, and it was crap compared to the previous eight. And goodness knows when we’ll get book ten which should hopefully finish the series. Same goes for George RR Martin and the final book in The Song of Iceland Fire (GoT) series.

Everyone seems to be angrier these days.

I was very angry during menopause 20 years ago.
Any slight stupid action or delay would make my blood boil. Thankfully I calmed down into my 60s when retirement at 62 changed life down a gear. Now quite mellow and try to keep world problems and political carry-ons to the back of my mind as I can do little about it all. To be honest am glad I should be out of it all within the next ten years!

I don't think I'm angry. However, I fear have become bitter. Not an attractive trait.

There certainly seem to be some angry Grans posting on Gransnet.

Same here, diygran, very angry during menopause.

Now there is very little that makes me angry, I cannot remember the last time I was angry, it is not a feeling I like.

I think that sometimes women expressing strong opinions are perceived by some as angry, when men would simply be expressing strong opinions.

I don't know if I'm angrier than I used to be, really - maybe about different things, including the ones in the OP. On a day to day basis though, not really.

This, totally.

But yes, many, women and men... are tense and tired at the moment, and expressing this in so many ways. Society is very divided, and the pandemic, price rises, fear of war in Ukraine escalating, including nuclear threat, not knowing how to feed the family, keep mortgage or rent going, never mind those expensive presents TV and Press advertising are telling you you must have or give, Brexit, and this inept Government and the lasting damage they will pass on - is enough to make people angry. Not surprising, really?

Think of the past upheavals and hard times tho, we got through it without turning into Mr and Mrs Angry didn’t we?
There are always wars or recessions and whatnot and poor governments at times.
I think maybe this angry stuff comes from rolling news and social media.

I didn't like any of them apart from the first one which was just ok. My friend used to pass them on to me and I found them boring.
I gave in after 1 or 2.

Please don't get angry with me. 🙂

Come outside and say that! Callistemon 😂
No I can’t stand those books either, or the tv series.

Redhead56 Wed 07-Dec-22 19:17:53

I am too often called opinionated which can be confused with being angry. This is usually by men who think women are not entitled to voice their opinion.
My response is well if you don’t like straight talk just move on then I don’t have to listen to your chauvinistic dribble.

I agree. I've always had a happy disposition.

No need to be Mrs Angry, look to the future, not bad news.

I think I sometimes get cross,, as in irritated, but never angry.
The anger I have witnessed by younger women parking at the school gates or in supermarket car parks is something else.

😂😂😂

Oh, I thought it was just me! Never watched the TV series.

I gave up trying to read one which was set in America which was just so dull.

Anger directed positively can be a force for good.
Otherwise it causes stress , anxiety and the only person suffering is yourself (and anyone you may live with).

Nothing wrong with being angry.

Did none of you do the assertiveness courses that used to be so popular in our youth?

Yammy Wed 07-Dec-22 19:49:49

I get more angry now than I ever did. The odd thing is when angry I am much more eloquent and elocuted.
DH says I can argue till the cows come home but at the end of the day, I cry because I don't like being nasty. He could always tie me in knots but not anymore, I'm turning into my mother and especially my gran.Everyone called her Mrs K even my father her SIL.
When I reflect it is not something I am proud of and think it might be that I went to a co-ed school and always worked with men, so I gave as good as I got I had to be considered, now I don't work I vent it out in other ways.
The situation the country is in and the World doesn't,t really lead to a passive demeanour.
I think I might be one of the grumpy old grans.blush
Maybe an idea for new years resolution?

But is it anger for many. Or disappointment, sadness, dispair even- and not even for themselves, but those less fortunate, and as grans, our grand-children. The country is in a real mess, with little hope of recovery- no surprise that many wish to express how they feel about this.

VioletSky Wed 07-Dec-22 19:50:56

I am rubbish at being angry

Maybe a bit more sad and disappointed lately but I'm not great at that either

I'm quite resilient and bounce back

Whitewavemark2 Wed 07-Dec-22 19:53:31

Lot to be angry about.

Poldark was the same Callisemon21 ,I think they just run out of ideas. Winston Graham just filled the later books with politics and battles.
I only read a few Outlander and the only thing I can remember is a skeleton in the past having an amalgam filling.

grannydarkhair Wed 07-Dec-22 20:04:38

Callistemon21 and Oreo I’ve only seen the first two seasons of Outlander, think all the actors do a good job but prefer the books. They’re admittedly not great literature and I really don’t understand people’s adulation of DG, but up until book nine, have found them very readable. But certainly won’t be re-reading it any time soon.
And it would take a great deal more than criticism of DG/Outlander to make me angry 😁

Yes I am too, about myself.

I'm not angry just bored at the monotonous regularity of such destructive and negative criticism.
I dare say it's down to Brexit
