Gransnet's virtual Christmas party - everyone's invited

We've dusted off the baubles, stocked up on bubbly and mince pies, and will be putting up the tree tomorrow. All in preparation for the annual online Gransnet Christmas Party. Although we may have to replenish the tins of chocolates (someone has demolished the lot ?). tchwink

We know that for many reasons, some of you might be spending the festive season on your own, so if that's the case, or if you simply find a spare minute on the day and fancy popping in to celebrate, please do.

There'll be a welcome mulled wine from HQ, some cheesy Christmas jokes, and loads of good wishes from fellow gransnetters. tchsmile

EDIT: We've even got The Gransnet Playlist sorted thanks to your suggestions. So feel free to have this on high volume while you dance around the kitchen.

I will definitely be dropping in and will bring some cava or prosecco and orange juice for some bucks fizz

vickya Fri 07-Dec-18 13:37:36

Oh 3 tablespoons cocoa. And 8oz bar of Bourneville.

mancgirl Fri 07-Dec-18 13:50:20

Well, I'm a 60's girl so playlist will include lots of fab music from arguably the best music decade ever, so expect all your favourite tunes, including tamla and Northern soul. For the not so energetic, I'm a fan of dancing in your chair too! Let's party! Ps. Think you'll all be relieved I'm not in charge of foodblush

Bellanonna Fri 07-Dec-18 13:54:09

Oh now I’ve seen the dress code Lara I don’t think I’ve got anything suitable. Wonder if Marydoll would lend me one of her Argy outfits? I’d need time to get it dry cleaned first. Mary D? ?

Marydoll Fri 07-Dec-18 14:02:40

Absolutely no problem, Bella. I have no use for them now that I am "expecting".
However, I would advise wearing thermals, they are a tad SKIMPY, to say the least. grin.

libra10 Fri 07-Dec-18 14:13:59

Sounds great. I'll bring the Baileys!

Day6 Fri 07-Dec-18 15:40:34

Oh I'm in! Thanks!

My paper hat remains on my head throughout December, and I am cranking up the old steam-powered record player..although Alexa is at your command for tunes of choice! tchsmile

Granless Fri 07-Dec-18 15:43:07

I don’t like parties - am the shy but not miserable type. ?
All enjoy what will be a super party.

Day6 Fri 07-Dec-18 15:44:52

Oooh, mancgirl, a woman after my own heart, music wise. I am 'out on the floor' already. tchgrin

And no, not conked out!

But it's early days, heh heh!

annsixty Fri 07-Dec-18 15:45:20

I have 3 litres of SloeGin "brewing" does anyone else like it?

mancgirl Fri 07-Dec-18 16:39:53

Out on the Floor one of the first ones*Day 6* . Sure to get everyone up dancing - hey, hey, hey,!!

Bellanonna Fri 07-Dec-18 16:53:40

Ooh thanks marydoll. Yes me thermals will be very much on. Think we all need to keep an eye on you, make sure you stick with the soft drinks only. Bet you’re regretting “things” now (iPad typed thongs just then. It must know you) ?

Barbs1 Fri 07-Dec-18 16:59:25

Def count me in - I’ll be on my own Christmas Day this year!

anitamp1 Fri 07-Dec-18 17:23:14

Perhaps we could all take time on the day to post a little joke or even a little puzzle to amuse those who are alone or having a sad Christmas.

labazs1964 Fri 07-Dec-18 17:57:59

ill provide some ceiling decorations nothing like some tacky foil decorations!

nonnasusie Fri 07-Dec-18 19:03:03

I'm sure DH will donate a bottle of homemade limoncello!!

NanKate Fri 07-Dec-18 19:14:05

Yes I will pop in on Xmas Day even though I think it will be pretty chaotic with a 73, 44, 7 and 5 year old, and myself a mere 72.

I can offer some choc liqueurs, this will stop me filling my face with them. ?

SparklyGrandma Sat 08-Dec-18 01:38:04

Yes, having a solitary though hopefully chocolate- fuelled Christmas this year...

moggie57 Sat 08-Dec-18 01:57:47

you will see me boxing day.

Rufus2 Sat 08-Dec-18 07:53:03

post a little joke
Anita; definitely not a "shaggy dog" joke then? I've already offered non-cheesy ones, but no takers so far! tchgrin

nanasam Sat 08-Dec-18 10:42:27

I haven't been to one of your parties before. Are there any rules? I'm happy to bring some pigs in blankets if you think they will go down well. I made 2 bottles of sloe gin in September, one for this year (if it was ready) and one for next. This year's is so good I'm pretty sure the second one won't last until next year (well, maybe until January 1st)! I can bring that for you to try. It sounds so exciting, I hope you let me come party

Rufus2 Sat 08-Dec-18 12:44:47

spending the festive season on your own
Unfortunately I've misread my invitation, but now I see it's going to be a glorified "Hens' Party" and there I was thinking ahead to roast turkey, plum pud and all the trimmings, including of course our favourite, lashings of bread sauce! I was even going to offer to take on the
traditional role of Grandad as Chief Carver! Oh well! Not to be! Dream on! sad Happy Yuletide!

NanKate Sat 08-Dec-18 15:22:43

I am sure you would be welcome Rufus we had such fun at your birthday party. I’m happy to be in charge of the Xmas music. I especially like ‘Santa is coming to town’ by Elvis.

NanKate Sat 08-Dec-18 15:25:07

‘Santa Claus is back in town’. Correction.

lemongrove Sat 08-Dec-18 15:50:47

I may look into the party at Christmas, depends how sober I am tchgrin will there be dancing?
Any music bar Slade, rap or hip hop, or heavy metal, grunge, punk, is fine by me.
Will you include Mr Blue Sky by ELO ( or was it Wizard?)
Blueberry Hill by Fats Domino. Blue Christmas by Elvis,
Blue Bayou by Roy Orbison ( I like blue.)
