Note to self, next Christmas I ...............

Will remember that I dont need to buy cards, as I have at least 4 packs stashed away in the bureau, that I bought in the January sales.

Will make sure that I have cleared the freezer of UFO's (Unidentified Frozen objects) to ensure that there is enough room for the turkey.

Buy the turkey early, remembering that the largest end of the "small" range is adequate for our needs.

If I forget the point above, resist the temptation, if forced into buying a turkey from the "medium" range, to get the biggest one in that range, because "as they are all the same price, I may as well get my money's worth tchblush "

Again, bearing in mind the point above, remember that although man may possibly be able to live on turkey alone, man may very well prefer not to. Ditto gammon.

Not buy Mr P a Christmas decoration for his late November birthday. His penchant for tasteless "flashing, light changing, sometimes musical festive items" is definitely NOT to be encouraged! (Although the look on his face when he unwraps it is lovely! tchsmile

Instill in Minnie that no matter how tempting the Christmas baubles are, they are actually meant to stay on the twig trees, rather than be removed and batted around the floor.

Second to the point above, give her a right good telling off, if she tries one more time to climb up the largest one. (Its her first Christmas since we rescued her, hopefully she will get the hang of it, if not, then she will NOT be getting her share of the cooked giblets!

And finally, try to remember all of these!

I used to write on December page of next years calendar (now do it on my phone) that I didn't need cards/paper and where I'd put them.

Well, apart from the cat advice ( don’t have a pet at the moment) and the flashing lights, I do all those things every year Phoenix and not by accident either tchgrin I like having tons of cards to choose from and always go for the largest turkey or turkey crown ( we may be snowed in!) and I enjoy clearing out the UFO’s in the freezer ( such surprises come to light.) Who knew there was a single pork chop, some finny haddock (several years old) and a pack of what may well be frozen gooseberries ( or may not.)

It’s all part of the festive fun Phoenix......now, just off to curse the ham.

lemongrove So good to see that my approach to that piece of meat has seemed to become popular among some GN members!

Curse away, and don't forget the sherry!

Jalima1108 Sat 22-Dec-18 16:06:57

just off to curse the ham.

which is what I have been doing today! It has been in and out of the freezer like skipping in and out of the Scottish bluebells. Out, ready to cook tomorrow (lovely, with jacket potatoes and home-made cauliflower cheese). Then we were reminded that we have a 'do' tomorrow lunch-time, followed by buffet lunch. As we're out in the evening, the bloody gammon went back in the freezer promptly. However, we're not eating out tomorrow evening tchhmm
Then we discussed what to do, when to cook it so it came out again. Then a change of mind and in it went.
Now it's out and it's going in the slow cooker tomorrow instead of roasting as recommended on the packaging.

Curse the gammon!
However, as DH said 'if it was still alive it would be saying "what the hell what the hell is she up to?"!'
tchgrin

ps didn't mean to curse twice!

I once bought Christmas Cards in January AND unearthed them in December only to discover that the script inside wished a Merry Christmas and a Happy - 1998.

phoenix Sat 22-Dec-18 16:15:19

Ha!

This year's lump won't fit in either of the slow cookers ) (wrong shape? tchconfused

So, it's on the hob, and back to cursing!

Jalima1108 Sat 22-Dec-18 16:21:30

tchgrin

I think I need a sherry

Jalima1108 Sat 22-Dec-18 16:23:45

I found some charity Christmas cards, wrote some and sent them out then noticed on the back that it said donations would be made in 2015 to the following charities …..

Not as bad as 1998 though - nearly vintage, could be worth quite a lot Granny23!

Well I need another fridge. Just got all in but got more arriving tomorrow?
Next year I will not stress out sending flowers to distant friends who cannot be bothered to acknowkrdge them, I too will not bother to buy more cards as I have so many assorted cards from past years, I will not bother to buy any more wrapping paper as I have loads but I WILL remember to buy Sellotape.
Sitting down with a glass of Tia Maria and a whole bar of chocolate now watching the show jumping from Olympia.

Ha ha ha...I know what you mean about the ham/food hokey-cokey Jalima tchgrin

We do the same with various edible items at this time of year.

We are still not clear what we are, or can eat for dinner tonight! tchgrin I mean - it's not Christmas Eve yet.....

nanasam Sat 22-Dec-18 16:57:27

Not get a bad cold when we have 5 extra staying and 9 for 3 meals over Christmas.
DH has been very helpful but he has a cold also.

lemongrove Sat 22-Dec-18 18:08:58

BB I am a fellow sufferer, but my new medicine is working wonders, has numbed the painful sore throat and relaxed me.....Baileys, with ice!

travelsafar Sat 22-Dec-18 18:37:29

I found the best way to avoid buying stuff purchased in the sales for the next Christmas is to write it down on the new calender in the begining sections of November. This also gives me time to search for the items if i can not remember where i put them!!! smile. I also jot present ideas there too so when i am asked if there is anything i would like i can give people an idea.tchgrin
