Marzipan pliability problems

This year I haven't been well and have bought marzipan ready made. It is just a hard block and almost impossible for my arthritic hands to mould or roll out.
Should I put it somewhere warm to soften or will this make it harder still? How about the microwave?
(The almond paste I used to make myself was always much more pliable - I've never had this problem before)
PS - its well within its sell-by date!

I’d put it somewhere warm like the airing cupboard see if that softens it enough.

I have the same problem Bbarb, in the past I’ve cut the block up and sort of squished the smaller pieces. It does soften as it warms, then rolled it on icing sugar to the size I needed. This year I’ve been incredibly lazy, or maybe sensible, and bought ready rolled marzipan, enough to cover the top and sides of our smallish cake. My hands definitely appreciated the difference.

@tanith That's a good idea, the packet is in the airing cupboard as we speak! I did try to get ready rolled as cornergran suggested, but of course it was all sold out.
I've been buying quite a lot of ready made food this year and very good it is too!

Gosh you’ve just made me realise how close Christmas is I don’t know what I was thinking ?. I should be marzipanning mine too only a week to go.

Yes. I too had completely forgotten to marzipan the cake. Sigh.

I would think a few seconds in the microwave would soften it enough to roll it out. And then it will firm up again once it's on the cake. [mouth watering emoji]

elastic, I concur. I doubt the airing cupboard would be warm enough. Just do it a few seconds at a time on a medium setting till it feels right.

I always microwave marzipan before I roll it out.
