How do I tell my family I don’t want any more gin for Christmas. I rarely drink at home ( mum was an alcoholic). I like the occasional pink gin but my cupboards are over flowing. How do I tell them nicely without sounding ungrateful to them?

Don’t, just pass it round to us

Ohmother just today I received a letter from the care home where a family member lives. They are appealing for donations of bottles of wine and spirits for a fundraising raffle to provide Christmas treats for the residents. They are unable to hold a fundraising Christmas fete this year due to Covid and their funds are depleted.

If you have a surplus you really don’t want, a phone call to a local care home will find someone eager to relieve you of it. Most of them fundraise throughout the year to buy extra treats.

You simply tell them.Well before Christmas (now) say that you have lots of gin in the cupboard, enough to last for a few years.
I told my family that I had loads of toiletries one year (I could have started a shop to rival Boots) it’s much better to be truthful.
