Yesterday my DH said " let's have a discussion tomorrow about what other presents we still need to buy". WE!!! I love him dearly, but he does make me laugh sometimes!!! Are there any other Mother Christmases out there?

Oh yes grin when we are thanked for a gift Mr. S. will whisper "what did we get them".

vampirequeen Thu 26-Nov-20 17:28:57

I'm definitely Mother Christmas lol.

I'm also the birthday card/present fairy.

I live with my son, who’s just finished university, and has managed to get himself a part time job - yesterday he got his first pay packet. The first thing he did was to go online to buy his sister a Christmas present, and when he came home after work yesterday he’s got me a bar of chocolate, which I thought was lovely. I don’t know how it happened, but I think he will be a Father Christmas.

I was always the Fairy Godmother too. Everything arranged and appeared as if by magic. grin

Oh yes!

What a lovely young man Casdonsmile.

Good Lord, my dh wouldn’t even think to ask - he just assumes that I’ll do it all!
To be entirely fair, he comes from an all-boy family where except for when they were small they never bothered with presents, for Christmas or birthdays or even birthday cards, still don’t.

I sent a card to eldest BiL for a Very Big Birthday - it was the only one he had! Even his wife and children didn’t bother, but that’s how they’ve always been.
Personally I think dh’s lot are boring old miseries in that respect (otherwise I do really like them) but each to their own.

DillytheGardener Thu 26-Nov-20 19:25:16

I buy all the gifts on behalf of myself and DH, and my dil buys on behalf of her and my 1st DS, my other son used to split turns buying with his now ex partner. Dil quite progressive, but even she is clearly lumped with it too ? She does get DS to do all the cooking though which I’m jealous of!

The nearest my DH ever gets is to say, "Do you want to use my card to pay for it?" This is after I've done all the furtive enquiries about 'what he/she wants', after I've done all the research, looked online for the best place to buy it. He thinks 'we' are doing the present buying like this grin. Yes, another Mother Christmas here tchgrin

Another one here. Just going to do all the cards today. DH will be plugged in to his computer doing ‘stuff’ !!!!

For almost 50 years I have bought/wrapped/sent etc., all the pressies and cards for Christmas and birthdays and he has not got a clue or ever shown any interest. Sometimes I feel like leaving his name off the labels!

Gingster Fri 27-Nov-20 07:49:20

DH. Only buys one present and that’s for me. He goes out Christmas Eve and then asks me if I have any wrapping paper ?.

I usually show him what I’ve bought but he wouldn’t remember, so I won’t bother this year. He doesn’t hate Christmas but he wouldn’t bother with it if I wasn’t around. No decs. No cards, no presents. Bah humbug!

tanith Fri 27-Nov-20 07:50:41

I’ve always done all present buying and card sending it seems many wives take on the task.

fevertree Fri 27-Nov-20 08:28:50

I definitely have a Father Christmas in the house. Every year he asks for a wish list from our AC, including GC (only the one) and because he is known to be extravagant generous, the requests have been "jokingly" ramped up over the years.

Then every year he takes his nieces and nephew that live close to us, to the Boxing Day sales. (Made me wonder now about this year! I doubt he will do that).

Definitely Father Christmas. I buy or make the stocking fillers.

He is of course impossible to buy gifts for ...

Maggiemaybe Fri 27-Nov-20 08:59:27

Yes, I’m Mother Christmas, but only because I want to be. I’ve always enjoyed the present planning and buying, card writing, getting on with the Christmas wrapping in front of a weepie film on TV or with carols in the background. I love it all.

sodapop Fri 27-Nov-20 09:11:08

Mother Christmas here as well except my husband is brilliant at wrapping presents especially the awkwardly shaped ones. We don't have many to wrap now though as most of my presents are are sent direct. My husband has a large family and sometimes complains they don't keep in touch, when I suggest he could make the first move it takes days of nagging prompting to get him to do it,

Yiayia4 Fri 27-Nov-20 09:28:42

Another Mother Christmas here.DH not interested at all,I often think if I wasn’t around Christmas would be cancelled.

Grannybags Fri 27-Nov-20 09:34:50

And me! I always have to tell my husband what presents "we've" bought. I send all cards to his family too.

I also decide what we're going to eat and how the family will be entertained when they come on Boxing Day (although no need for any of that this year sad)

I sometimes feel the pressure to make sure everyone has a good time which is probably why I never look forward to Christmas

Ladyleftfieldlover Fri 27-Nov-20 09:44:44

I have always bought all the presents, wrapped them and written the cards. I set up address labels years ago so just have to print them off. When the offspring were at home they would write the cards for me. OH buys my presents from a list provided by me. I also do the stockings and plan the menus.

Greyduster Fri 27-Nov-20 09:44:52

Same here, and worse this year as so much of the present buying has had to be done on line. “Well, I don’t know any of the passwords for these things and you do......”. Oh well that alright then! Will he choose and write cards? Don’t be silly! But he does make me a nice cup of tea while I’m doing it!

Redhead56 Fri 27-Nov-20 09:45:31

Mother Christmas is my name and I live in a grotto. I have always sorted presents out wrapped them sent cards out too. My husband also asks me for wrapping paper Christmas Eve. I think in fact I know I have gone over the top this year but that’s me love to spoil people.

Urmstongran Fri 27-Nov-20 09:54:55

Actually Himself is very good about buying gifts at Christmas. I think it’s his way of showing he loves us all as he’s not a tactile person - very rarely gives a ‘proper’ hug unless we ask for one!

Witzend Fri 27-Nov-20 09:55:53

I’m sure that if I weren’t around, nothing much would happen here either, @Yiayia4 - (that’s Greek for granny isn’t it?)
However I rather like doing it all - I’ve always loved Christmas - so I don’t mind.
One thing dh will always do, though he doesn’t cook, is load the dishwasher and clear up all the mess in the kitchen - I’m a messy cook - and not just on Christmas Day, either.
