Teenage girl Christmas present ideas

My ds's partner has a dd who is in her early teens. We don't see them often and this year I've seen her twice. I've asked her mum if an amazon voucher would be ok for Christmas and she replied yes. However I think she was maybe being polite. My ds is useless for ideas. The girl is lovely. She's had a few problems over the years but is always polite and friendly to me and the family when we meet up. I like her a lot although she and her mum don't stay with my ds. Can anyone think of something I could get her that's nicer than a voucher? She dislikes reading and has specific shops for clothes and I know my dd and her mum are organising that side. I'm sure she will be happy with the voucher but it seems impersonal somehow. Any ideas would be very much appreciated.

See through acrylic make up organiser, it’s a layered box type thing. GD had this last year for all of her bits and bobs.

If you go onto Amazon and type in ‘gifts for teenage girls’ you will get some ideas, I have ordered from them and sent the gifts direct to DDs house for her to wrap this year as we won’t be able to see them.

You could find wicked uncle website, they you just search for the age etc and they come up with gift ideas. They have links but of course you dont have to use them if you can find it cheaper elsewhere. I have had quite a few successes with them over the years. I once bought a lava lamp thing with jelly fish!

Why not buy something from Lush to go with it?
Most people over 2 and under about 35 like their smellies and they are ok eco-credential-wise (just in case).

uk.lush.com/

My family all love them.
Not cheap but nice treats.

If she has a mobile phone - maybe a nice cover for it? Does she have headphones? My teen daughter has AirPods which were her main Christmas present last year, but if your GD is a bit younger and doesn’t have them then Amazon do cheaper ones for around £20 which do the job.

Makeup? Eyeshadow palettes go down well with my DD - morphe is the trendy brand but they are v expensive, around £35 for one palette. I’d clear with her mum first if you buy make up to make sure she’s allowed it.
Perfume? The perfume shop does a wee set which gives 5/6 little testers with a voucher to redeem for a full bottle of the one they like best - last I got this is was around £30

Jewellery? Again Amazon have lovely little snake bracelets which you can buy charms for (similar to the more expensive Pandora options) and you can pick a bracelet/charms to suit budget. It also gives gift ideas moving forward as you could add to the bracelet.

Does she have her own hairdryer?

I bought a really nice shiny red hairdryer for DGD on A****n's Black Friday deals, also added L'oreal bright pink temporary hair dye, which she is allowed during the school holidays ( which look like being longer this Christmas).

A nice girly gift ?

I think she will be picky about hair dryers/phone covers etc.
I think an Amazon voucher or money is best along with a thoughtful small treat

I did as MrsThreadgoode and got segveral ideas some of which I have sent for. Among them is a vanity mirror with lights and a snuggle blanket.

Soap & Glory gift set at Boots has been reduced from £60 to £30. I think most teenage girls (and older) would love it

I really think a voucher is the best idea for a teenage girl if you don't know exactly what she wants.

They often have to have 'the right things' ie what all their friends have.
I've bought a few non-specific things for a 12 year old DGD but am awaiting more suggestions - otherwise it will be a voucher or money.

A stores voucher is a bit uncertain at the moment, too.

I have 3 nieces , 2 are teens and one is 21 . They all like to have
money or vouchers as they love to shop for themselves with their own money . The youngest one particularly enjoys seeing the notes in her purse smile

It is difficult when you do not know what she already has or what she is into.

I think it is adults that like giving an actual gift to open but teens usually prefer money or vouchers. Amazon are best due to the variety of items.

Our GD, who’s 13 made a list, as we all do in my family, so we can choose a couple of presents. Without any clues from either her or her parents, I too would go for a voucher.

Grandmabatty Wed 02-Dec-20 21:20:05

Thank you for all your ideas. I shall mull them over.

My 14 year old granddaughter loves fizzy bath bombs. Lush have a lovely selection and will gift wrap into a nice little package. They are sold as singles starting around £3.50 each. It’s possible to make a nice gift basket with their products. Or even a token small gift along with the voucher.

You could look on midlifechic (Instagram, or just type onto the internet search bar to find her)- on her post of 17th November she asked her sons and their girlfriends to do the legwork and they came up with some unusual but cool ideas, I liked the re-usable cotton face wipes, and the zippo handwarmer, but there were quite a few good ideas.

I’d go for cash wrapped around something small - chocolate or e.g. a couple of BodyShop lip balms.
I’ve never know a teen who turns their nose up at cash!

Clothes

Voucher for Next. New Look, Zara

Recommendations based on DGD's Christmas List.

ImStillGood Thu 03-Dec-20 06:10:39

Yeah, clothes or jewerly would be nice, or you can get her a gift card so that she could choose something on her own.
Cash is good too, but if Grandmabatty wants to make her gift more personal then it's not the best idea. If there is some info about her interests, then it can be a magazine subscription or maybe some tech: like a Photoworks or Affinity Photo subscriptions if she enjoys Instagram with its filters.

Seems that the general advice is not to buy store vouchers this year....just in case. My GDD is thirteen and a half, she loves make up and cash!

yggdrasil Thu 03-Dec-20 11:31:41

My grandchildren get cash, with the instruction to tell or show me what they spent it on. My granddaughter wants clothes, and vouchers don't work if they aren't for the right place.
I also send a little present for opening on Christmas morning.

Grandmabatty Thu 03-Dec-20 11:39:38

I'mstillgood a magazine subscription sounds a good idea. I'll investigate further.

grandtanteJE65 Fri 04-Dec-20 12:05:23

Whatever you decide on, make sure it can be changed after Christmas if she wants to.

Teenage GD is getting a hairdryer and straighteners from us this year and I have bought some hair products to go with them. I am also buying an ipad cover and stand.
Anything for face, hair or body or you can never go wrong with technology gadgets.
