Watching now. Just been on a nativity service with DD officiating and DGDs doing two of the readings. Full Christmas immersion!

Greyduster Thu 24-Dec-20 17:58:50

Us too. Wouldn’t be Christmas Eve without it.

I love that arrangement of In The Bleak Midwinter. It was quite spooky.

TerriBull Thu 24-Dec-20 17:59:58

In the absence of not being able to go to mass this year, the next best thing. So glad to have heard "In the bleak mid winter" my favourite carol.

Ellianne Thu 24-Dec-20 18:03:26

Beautiful singing!

ginny Thu 24-Dec-20 18:22:45

Lovely singing but I’m finding it all a bit melancholy. Probably just me.

rosecarmel Thu 24-Dec-20 18:24:06

Any links for listening live?

Oldbat1 Thu 24-Dec-20 18:24:48

Not religious at all but always enjoy watching and listening.

The Kings Singers were invited with only 48 hours notice because there were cases of COVID 19 amongst the lay clerks (adult choir men) I thought the arrangements were lovely and made best use of their talents.p. Daniel Hyde is an outstanding successor in a long tradition of excellence.

Christmas would not feel right without this on the radio/TV.
I watch the older videos on YouTube too, more cheery without the distancing and masks and a full congregation and choir.

We don’t get much of real quality on TV, but this is always superb. I was very impressed by the King’s Singers. What amazingly good singing. Why do we hear so little good singing?

Calendargirl Fri 25-Dec-20 07:10:43

I enjoyed it, lots of lovely carols, and thoughtful readings.

Thanks for putting this thread up or I would have missed the concert.

I remember back in the early 70’s seeing the original King’s Singers in concert in Oxford. They then came to our school in Chester and did a lovely concert. Apparently the mother of one of them worked at our school.

It is good to see the group still going strong, albeit with several changes in the line up over the years, but a joy to hear such wonderful voices.

Greyduster Fri 25-Dec-20 07:48:33

We used to hear a lot of The King’s Singers at one time I remember. It was all a bit strange this year, but lovely nonetheless. I was pleased they sang Bob Chilcott’s
‘Shepherds Carol’. Haunting and beautiful.
