Heard the Jonah Lewie song ‘Stop The Cavalry’ on the radio this morning. I remarked to DH that it was one song I didn’t like at the time, and still don’t!

Is it the tune, ‘du du, dududu, du du ….’ the words, the singer?

Don’t know, but certainly not in my top ten.

Mistletoe and wine is the one I don't like.

When a child is born.
Actually, I dislike all of them.

Not on my top anything either. It’s a war song with a tenuous link “wish I was at home for Christmas”.
Although I like it early on in December, by the time I’ve finished shopping, preparing, cooking, wrapping, decorating etc I’m heartily fed up of “I wish it could be Christmas every day.”

My daughter was surprised to realise that I could remember many of these songs coming out for the first time - to her, they have been around forever.

I get the sentiment of the Jonah Lewie one but think it's weird to play it among the jolly, holly ones.

I dislike Mistletoe & Wine especially the phrase "Christian rhyme".

Anything by Slade
Anything by Wizard
Ditto Cliff Richards!
TBH I rarely have the radio on (prefer Alexa to play my own playlist) and I do online shopping, so this year I’ve been spared the usual Christmas offerings.

I love Stop The Cavalry....shows we are all very different.
Hmmm, I don’t like the Slade one ( never have) or anything by Cliff Richard, or The Osmonds.?

Oh, I love this one! It was in the charts when DS was a baby, I felt it was all about him!

seeing this made me laugh, i was out with my partner in a small pub, us and about 4 others, i went to put on some music on the old jukebox and pressed and pressed to get it to work, the result was this song 6 times in a row, we drank up and left, partner and i could not stop laughing....me at 50 almost peeing myself outside at the looks we got.

Anything by Slade
Anything by Wizard
Anything by Cliff Richards at any time of the year

Anything by Mariah Carey!

I listened to Oh Holy Night yesterday by the choir from Carols from Kings 2017. It was so lovely, and I admit, it made my eyes fill with tears. I don't like Christmas songs on the radio, but I love this carol.

"It will be lonely this Christmas without you". DD a few years ago worked on a cancer unit and said it was played on repeat until a relative asked for it to be removed. The other offspring nearly got sacked for telling a boss where to put Frosty the snowman which had been on repeat. When I hear them they make me sad thinking of the laugh we had at the time.
I don't like smulch and over the top senimentality so a lot that other have mentioned would go on the list as well.
My favourite is the Pogs"Fairy tale of New York'' gritty and down to earth.

Oh how could I forget!
All that awful, awful marbling!
I never knew the word "you" could have so many syllables.

MissAdventure Mon 06-Dec-21 15:27:25

Sigh.
Warbling!

HowVeryDareYou Mon 06-Dec-21 15:29:36

Any Cliff Richard ones or anything else that's so sentimental. I don't mind The Pogues or even Slade grin

Not a fan of Christmas songs but hearing O Holy Night gets me every time.
I was caught out in Sainsbury’s a few years ago when primary school pupils began singing it. I had to pretend I was heavily invested in bed linen with tears in my eyes.

MissAdventure Mon 06-Dec-21 15:31:47

There's one I quite like, but I don't know what it's called.
It's fairly miserable.

Shelbel Mon 06-Dec-21 15:35:43

I dislike most of them especially because it starts too early and goes on too long. If they left it until a week before Christmas I could enjoy some. I prefer traditional songs, carols and folk or even the 50s songs. Most of the rest are inane drivel.

rosie1959 Mon 06-Dec-21 15:35:52

Can’t stand Fairytale in New York The Pogues so depressing or Driving home for Christmas Chris Reah
Love Last Christmas Wham and Stay another day East 17
But it’s not Christmas without Slade and Wizzard

MissAdventure Mon 06-Dec-21 15:39:52

I don't mind a bit of Slade, or Fairytale of New York.
I always really liked Roy Wood, so Wizard are ok too.

Trisha57 Mon 06-Dec-21 15:46:58

We play Phil Spector's Christmas Album every year when we put the tree up. When elder DD was in Reception class they sang Frosty the Snowman at the Christmas concert. Guess who sang it in the style of the Ronettes?!!! grin

I don't like the bit where he talks, can't remember who it is. I quite like the singing but but I cringe when the oh so sincere talking bit starts.

MissAdventure Mon 06-Dec-21 15:54:25

Johnny Mathis.
My mum like him.

DiscoDancer1975 Mon 06-Dec-21 15:54:44

“ It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas”. Not sure if that’s the title, but Sainsbury’s has it on a roller every year. Normally would hear it at least twice ?. Can’t stand it!
