Over 50? Here's what you're not allowed to do.

According to this charming gentleman, over 50s should not use emojis, be on Twitter, wear daring clothing (a la Helena Christensen in her bustier top the other day) or admit to having sex. Really?! Tell me not to do something and it's only going to make me want to do it more. Might be setting up a Twitter account in a moment so I can brag about my sex life using some risqué emojis just to spite him. angry

Yep! What's the point of getting older if you can't do it disgracefully?

LavRos Thu 02-May-19 14:10:10

My son told me once to ‘grow old disgracefully’. I have every intention of doing so....

Sara65 Thu 02-May-19 14:23:17

I no longer give damn about what anyone thinks about me/says about me, so I shall just do whatever I please

Teetime Thu 02-May-19 14:44:19

Well he's a twerp isn't he. Hopefully we are all doing what we want to do my now---I'll just unlace my bustier and settle down for some sex in the afternoon with the light on and the blinds open.

Sara65 Thu 02-May-19 14:51:10

Teetime

Enjoy!!!

Well, I'm going to leave my knickers off when I do my shopping at the Co-op tomorrow. What fun!

Sara65 Thu 02-May-19 15:03:16

Dotty
It would take a lot more than you leaving your knickers off to get a reaction out of any of the staff in our coop!

tinaf1 Thu 02-May-19 17:48:36

Perhaps you could wear them as a hat Dotty see if you get a reaction ?

Charleygirl5 Thu 02-May-19 17:57:07

I know somebody who never ever wore knickers.

I am with Sara65 I also do not give a stuff what people think about me etc.

SirChenjin Thu 02-May-19 18:00:07

Completely off topic but surely Helena Christiansen is older than 50? She was a few years older than me when I was in my teens and I’m 50 now confused

Ignore Benjamin - he’s just stirring the pot in order to get the clicks.

Avor2 Fri 17-May-19 20:48:41

I was told once to live long enough to be an embarrassment to your children - I am doing my best honest wink

Charleygirl.
Tell us about her

Blencathra Tue 09-Jul-19 07:36:12

I think that is you do everything he says you shouldn’t do you can’t go far wrong!

M0nica Tue 09-Jul-19 08:50:59

Ah, bless, what a shock he is going to have in a few more years when he starts galloping through his 40s.

annodomini Tue 09-Jul-19 09:36:37

The journalist is a young fogey of 37. As The Times is behind a paywall, I was only able to read the first few lines of an article he wrote two years ago entitled 'Why I Love my Gran'. I wonder if his gran has read today's article; moreover, wouldn't it be great if she was on Gransnet!

knickas63 Tue 09-Jul-19 09:40:44

Beige Cardigans and sensible shoes all round then? I don't think so!

Beckett Tue 09-Jul-19 09:50:56

Surely everyone over 50 (especially females) are sitting around knitting, discussing their arthritis, complaining about "youngsters of today", baffled by something called "the internet" and comparing notes on the best sensible shoes.

Now you have to excuse me I am off to find a site where I can book to go sky-diving!

Blinko Tue 09-Jul-19 09:57:05

Sounds like this chap is way behind the times, if you ask me. Should have been born in the last, oops, nineteenth century.

Miep1 Tue 09-Jul-19 10:13:56

I'm another who does exactly as she likes, doesn't give a stuff what anybody thinks or says about me! My kids disowned me years ago

Elegran Tue 09-Jul-19 10:16:46

Someone should remind him that "we are none of us infallible, not even the youngest of us."

This was apparently first said in 1878 by William Hepworth Thompson, Master of Trinity College, Cambridge at a College Meeting of the Fellowship. This was a time of great reformation at the college, and a Junior Fellow had proposed a revision of the college statutes. Thompson was actually greatly in favour of reform, despite being 68 at the time (That old!!! shock, horror!! Surely he was senile??)

midgey Tue 09-Jul-19 10:16:47

The joy of being fifty is that it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks! grin

catd Tue 09-Jul-19 10:24:16

Who makes these 'rules' anyway. I'm in my 60's have hair to my waist and still wear short skirts. Things I supposedly shouldn't do after the age of 35! I certainly don't care what the clothes police say I shall do as I please

annodomini Tue 09-Jul-19 10:38:27

As the next generation is now approaching 50, I'd better have a word with my DSs. grin

Apricity Tue 09-Jul-19 10:51:19

Who cares (I was thinking of some much more colourful language but have politely refrained) what some puerile irrelevant nonentity thinks? We've all got to this stage of life by a combination of good luck, good genes and sheer guts. Go for it girls, whoever and however you want it to be.
