...is anyone else really fed up of seeing Trump wearing baseball caps at press conferences etc. At this moment in time, when the world is in crisis, the man is dressing like Kevin the teenager. [sorry; I'm a bit grumpy at the moment and just needed to get that off me chest....].

It appeals to the IQ level of his average voter.

now now SirChengin My OH was talking to someone this morning who thinks both Trump and Bojo are amazing ...they say it like it is and have done great things....the country is better with Boris and the US has a real winner in power .

SirChenjin Sat 14-Mar-20 17:41:18

I can’t say that surprises me - these 2 men are cut from the same cloth

SalsaQueen Sat 14-Mar-20 19:04:20

I expect he wears it so that his -Shredded Wheat hair doesn't blow about

sodapop Sat 14-Mar-20 20:18:06

I'm sure he is getting more orange by the day as well. Has anyone else noticed. ?

The country ( here) is certainly better with Boris than it would have been with the chronic ditherer Corbyn at the helm paddy
As for DT......words fail me! Am hoping the voters go for Biden at the election there.
Presumably DT thinks a baseball cap makes him a man of the people.Anyone see Curb Your Enthusiasm lately, where Larry
Wears a Make America Great baseball cap to get himself out of trouble with a biker, and to clear space in a cafe for himself, hilarious.

It's so that the join doesn't show.

lemongrove Sat 14-Mar-20 20:31:33

That’s what Eric Morecambe would have said Ellan?

EllanVannin Sat 14-Mar-20 20:33:46

My first thought, lemongrove grin

Hetty58 Sat 14-Mar-20 20:40:10

He looks bloody ridiculous, as does BJ (the 'poundland Trump') and I can't quite believe that they are actually President and Prime Minister. Perhaps I'll wake up?

SirChenjin Sat 14-Mar-20 20:40:30

I did notice that soda grin

I agree about the baseball cap.

What is even more shocking is the report that Trump has contacted a German company which is trying to develop a coronavirus vaccine and offered them a huge sum of money for the EXCLUSIVE rights!

Presumably in the name of "America First" - disgusting!

POGS Mon 16-Mar-20 12:17:28

Just saying.

German company CureVac, working to develop mRNA-based coronavirus vaccine, did not deny being in touch with Trump or the US government, but did reject rumors of an acquisition in a statement issued on Sunday.

The self-described clinical state biopharmaceutical company said:

“…internal efforts are focused on the development of a coronavirus vaccine with the goal to reach, help and to protect people and patients worldwide. As a consequence, the company is in contact with especially CEPI and many other organizations and authorities worldwide, however abstains from commenting on speculations and REJECTS allegations about offers for acquisition of the company or its technology.”

CNN is no friend to Trump.
----

The story broke in the German paper Die Welt quoting an unidentified German government source.

There is no denying the USA has made offers to Cure Vac but I would think many other countries and firms are doing likewise, that's commerce.

Cure Vac is a privately owned company and in 2015 and 2018 secured financial backing for development projects from its investor the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, working on shots to prevent malaria and influenza.

In the field of so-called mRNA therapeutics, CureVac competes with US biotech firm Moderna and German rival BioNTech, which Pfizer ( UK) has identified as a potential collaboration partner.

So it does not prove or mean as being suggested Trump/USA want the 'vaccine for' exclusive use ', is it twisting the context and facts yet again by the media who have used Die Welt for their information?

SirChenjin Mon 16-Mar-20 13:14:47

No idea - but if it were true, it would be ridiculous wouldn't it. Either way, the German Govt are meeting about this today and the CEO of CureVac has been replaced since his meeting with Trump, so I expect things will become clearer over the next week or so.

Is there a link to reports of other countries making similar approaches?

Boris is a waffler ...on a string held by DC not sure why you think thats better than anyone else .His actions surrounding CV have been criticised world wide. His herd immunity statement caused shock waves among people I know in Canada and eastern europe.Maybe he needs to look east Sth Korea seems to be getting better results from their actions on the virus

Labaik Mon 16-Mar-20 13:27:02

Wasn't his idea to hold a press conference every day put forward by Keir Starmer….and it was good to see Hilary Benn just now on the politics programme.
