Singing is good for you

You know the tune and it scans perfectly

“I am the very model of effective social distancing!
I listen to the experts on the topic of resistance-ing;
I know that brunch and yoga class aren’t nearly as imperative
As doing what I can to change the nation’s viral narrative.

I’m very well acquainted, too, with living solitarily
And confident that everyone can do it temporarily:
Go take a walk, or ride a bike, or dig into an unread book;
Avoid the bars and restaurants and carry out, or learn to cook.

There’s lots of stuff to watch online while keeping safe from sinus ills
(In this case, it’s far better to enjoy your Netflix MINUS chills)!
Adopt a pet, compose a ballad, write some earnest doggerel,
And help demolish Trump before our next event inaugural.

Pandemics are alarming, but they aren’t insurmountable
If everybody pitches in to hold ourselves accountable.
In short, please do your part to practice prudent co-existence-ing,
And be the very model of effective social distancing!”

Blimey, the last time I'll sing to one of my cats, it hit me in the eye half an hour ago. I was singing "The Lonely Goat-herd" and it landed out, hahahaha.

I love a good old sing, even though my voice is absolutely awful.
I enjoy a whistle, too.

I love a good sing too, I often can be heard belting out a song being played on the radio.
My husband yells, "don't whistle", whenever he hears me. Apparently he thinks its unlucky for a woman to whistle. I don't know why, my Dad taught me how when I was little!

MissAdventure Tue 17-Mar-20 22:27:31

A whistling woman, a cackling hen, is neither good for God nor men.

That's what my Nan used to say to me.

I love to sing but due to CV our choir practices have been put on hold and now that all Church services have been suspended, it looks as if all our hard work for the Easter services has been for nothing.

Still, we had fun rehearsing.

MissAdventure Tue 17-Mar-20 22:35:19

I haven't had any interest or heart to do anything much, for a least a couple of years, but the choir thing does give me a little shiver of interest.
Only the slightest chink, but its a start.

Absolutely brilliant! Thank you for making me smile. ?

Callistemon Tue 17-Mar-20 23:25:30

Singing is good for you
But not necessarily for anyone within earshot of me
grin

Thank you though, GeminiJen I'm singing it in my head, very cleverly written

Brilliant!

GeminiJen - wow, what a talent.
Thank you, it's brilliant, but I now have a G&S earworm! grin

Fennel Wed 18-Mar-20 11:22:45

I recognise it too - brilliant grin.

The lady who runs my choir is doing an on-line choir through Zoom. I missed last nights, hope I can manage tonight.
Loved the song GeminiJen

I heard on Radio 4 that Gareth Malone is trying to set up a singing on the internet website. Our choir has been closed (poor choir master is self-employed so he'll lose a lot of fees), and I do so enjoy singing with our friendly choir.

Talent yes, but not mine. Sorry not to have made that clear blush
I got it from a friend ...who got it from a friend...who found it on the internet....
