Time for our Queen to speak?

As the whole nation frets and talk of the wartime spirit prevails, would we be comforted by a speech from the Queen, as in the days after the death of Diana?
It’s interesting too that the Queen herself must be surrounded by people coming and going and we have a thread on whether a cleaner should come into our home, our own castle!

I have never walked passed a homeless person, I know there are homeless people, I watch programmes which show the misery , I read of the misery. Why is it assumed the queen doesn’t do the same. She has a grandson who is patron of
Centre Point, again it is assumed he has never spoken of this
with his grandmother.

What annepl said .

Nothing she (or any of her family) might say will make any of our lives easier at this awful time. While many of us are struggling to get even the basics to live on and wondering how we might pay the bills, those who hang on their every word and movement can be assured that the rf will be very well looked after.

I have walked past homeless people Annie .

The Queen is going to broadcast a morale-lifting speech soon (not sure when though).

I have always been a royalist and yes I do understand the queen is very elderly however this country has been through so much with the floods and now the Coronovirus. The government are doing their best to support the people financially which means the people pay it back in future taxes yet the monarchy have billions of pounds.
It would have been a ice gesture if the queen had acknowledged the financial pain 'her people' were and still are suffering and pledged financial help from her own purse.
I know she has had a lot of 'family issues' to deal with and she has done so much for this country in the past but she's missing a trick here by not helping her subjects in their time of need. Perhaps a donation to the NHS?

A NICE gesture not ice gesture
Sorry

Thank goodness we have Boris as PM, what a nightmare it would be if we had Corbyn.

annep1 Sun 22-Mar-20 12:12:01

Hear hear * Happygirl*. And Charles.

There are some really nasty comments. I know we’re all worried and I suppose if you feel better having a rant so be it.
Yes, the Queen does have a life of great privilege but oh boy does she pay a price for it. There’s a lovely saying where I live “you don’t get owt for nowt” I should hate her life and don’t think for a moment she doesn’t care. I’ve never been homeless or hungry, but it doesn’t mean I don’t know or don’t care. She may be 93 but still does a lot of “work” stuff., not to mention having to plough through the red boxes every day.She has no privacy and can’t do right for doing wrong! I feel so lucky with my “ordinary life!”

ReadyMeals Sun 22-Mar-20 12:19:05

Aww leave the Queen alone - she's nearly 30 years past the age most of us retire! At 93 I think all "shoulds" are off.
Nonetheless I believe she is planning to speak to us in a video.

Anniebach Sun 22-Mar-20 12:37:39

The Queen never discloses what money she donates, this makes it easy for her to be accused of not donating money but
if she did allow it to be made public ? she be in for more
flack

arosebyanyothername Sun 22-Mar-20 12:47:17

She issued a message a few days ago didn't she?
She is at Windsor now I believe.
She's a woman in her nineties with a sick husband who hasn't been seen in public for some time.
Leave her to her own troubles.
She wasn't destined to be Queen in the first place and had to take the job on with a young family after her father died in his 50's.

Oh dear. How horrible it must be to live in luxury. Never have to do your own ironing or worry how you'll feed your children and all you have to do is turn out occasionally to be feted and fawned over. Sounds like hell.

As for the Royals during the war being in it with us I suggest you visit the National Railway Museum where you'll see the Royal WWII carriage. It has aluminium ducted air conditioning. Aluminium was in short supply during the war but the queen at the time insisted on having it and what she wanted she got. So whilst the plebs were donating their aluminium pans for the war effort she was getting her air conditioning.

I have resolved to say nothing remotely negative at present as I feel we should try to be positive in our self isolation.

Anything the Queen says to the Nation will uplift many people. Of course others won’t care.

Her words are always well considered and she has years of diplomatic experience. I am not at all a Royalist but I do respect & admire the Queen.

Take care everyone smile

Anniebach Sun 22-Mar-20 12:56:02

vampirequeen the Queen became queen in 1952, the war was over.

sodapop Sun 22-Mar-20 12:57:38

I agree entirely AdeleJay well said.

Shelagh6 Sun 22-Mar-20 12:59:39

No - why?

Calendargirl Sun 22-Mar-20 13:02:12

I get rather tired of reading all this bitching about the Royal Family. My late mother used to say “There always has been rats and mice, and there always will be”
Yes, what about other really wealthy families, who have marvellous properties, health care, staff, holidays, education etc?
There always will be have and have nots, it’s life, there NEVER will be equality for all, so it’s not much use constantly harping on about it.

Anniebach Sun 22-Mar-20 13:11:53

Should I get huffy when I read of three bedroomed houses with a garage ?

vampirequeen Sun 22-Mar-20 13:17:43

Please read my post. I said the queen at the time i.e. Queen Elizabeth, the current queen's mother.

Anniebach Sun 22-Mar-20 13:20:00

We are not responsible for our parents choices , the Queen is not responsible for her mother’s choices.

vampirequeen Sun 22-Mar-20 13:21:15

Calandargirl. Why is it bitching to say anything negative about royalty? Surely both Royalists and Republicans are entitled to their own opinions. I and other Republicans may not say things you agree with but that doesn't mean we're bitching.

Calendargirl Sun 22-Mar-20 13:22:03

Whatever vampirequeen but with all due respect, you’re talking about something that happened at least 75 years ago, so nothing can be done about that.

Calendargirl Sun 22-Mar-20 13:23:13

Well, it sounds like bitching to me. A bit more than just ‘negative’.

EllanVannin Sun 22-Mar-20 13:25:40

Blimey, who expects the woman to make a speech ? Why, for what reason ? That's just daft or-----------
