New Zealand on Lockdown

We're staying with our DS and his son (both medical workers) in NZ. Today the country has gone to Level 3, and in 48 hours will be at Level 4, i.e. total lockdown, schools and all shops and restaurants closed except supermarkets and pharmacies. We will have to self-isolate as a family for 4 weeks. Obviously with them being key workers, our DS and his partner will be going to work, we will be looking after one year old DS. We are all being super cautious with hand-washing etc.
NZ are introducing this pro-actively in the hope of stopping COVID 19 before it gets a grip. Let's hope it works!

Why would they escape to their summer homes when it is winter there?

Callistemon Wed 12-Aug-20 10:51:12

To get away from Auckland?

Thanks Callistemon.

Ellianne. Almost everyone I knew in NZ had some sort of summer pad ranging from opulent to the most basic shack that they use during the summer holidays (around Christmas) I felt summer homes a more accurate description. Second home tends to indicate a degree of wealth in the U.K. and many of the bachies you see around the coastline are pretty basic.

Ah gotcha Esspee. Like an escape pad.
Our familiy's bach was very basic, no proper toilet, but bang on a beautiful beach.

Fond memories.

Lovely.

In fact it looks like bliss at the moment, especially if it's cool there.
DH assured me(having been before) that it rarely got cold in New Zealand so it must have been one of those rare times when I went. It was exceedingly chilly.
