I hope he recovers - I’ve followed his being ill at home, it sounded horrendous. He’s had a night in ICU but his family say he’s now back on the ward. Fingers crossed. A lovely man.

Fingers crossed from me, too sad...

MawB Mon 30-Mar-20 22:52:38

Everything crossed for him here as well ??

Callistemon Mon 30-Mar-20 23:08:44

Best wishes to Michael, get well soon ???

Hope he pulls through - he has given so much pleasure to children (and adults!) through the years. DGS was telling me today (via Amazon Echo) that he had put one of his teddy bears in the window for younger children to do their "We are going on a bear hunt". He had to explain to me what was going on as I hadn't heard about it and not walking past many windows at the moment!

Wishing him well, a sincere and genuine human being.

BlueBelle Tue 31-Mar-20 04:53:26

I wish him well but don’t know who he is ?

LullyDully Tue 31-Mar-20 08:03:12

I found this very worrying. What an intelligent, interesting man he is. I heard him on the radio a few weeks ago talking about how strange it was to be considered elderly at 73. He was very chipper. It did hit home to read he was so ill.

Oh no ☹️ I didn’t know this. Met him lots of times via work. A lovely, lovely man. On my prayer list.

Anyone seen his poem to the NHS?

A man of the people. I’m sure he will pull through

suziewoozie Tue 31-Mar-20 09:05:19

I had been following his suffering on Twitter - he was very ill and I kept shouting virtually that he should ring 999.

MaizieD Tue 31-Mar-20 10:21:54

Hmm.

Several years ago I crossed swords with Rosen on a number of forums about a specific issue. There is a not too pleasant side to him as well.

But I do hope he recovers. He has made a big contribution to all sorts of areas of literature and thought.

Callistemon Tue 31-Mar-20 10:32:47

I have a bear in the window but haven't seen any children

suziewoozie Tue 31-Mar-20 10:37:04

Everyone has a none too pleasant side to them - posting your comment on this thread Maizie could be seen as an example of yours

grandMattie Tue 31-Mar-20 10:39:12

How very sad. He’s had enough tragedy in his life...

MaizieD Tue 31-Mar-20 10:39:31

I knew that I shouldn't break in on the love fest.. ?

Hi Bluebelle, he is a children's author and good enough to have been the Children's Laureate from 2007-9. His version of 'We're all going on a bear hunt' might be his most famous book.

Albangirl14 Tue 31-Mar-20 11:11:50

I have been lucky enough to meet him on several occasions and have found him to be very down to earth and not requiring any special treatment in schools and at Book Festivals. Now my chidren are enjoying his books again with their children. I wish him a recovery to good health .

optimist Tue 31-Mar-20 11:13:08

We saw him at the Old Vic recently then audience of children parents and grandparents were so engaged wonderful and interesting man. I hadnt realised he was ill.

annodomini Tue 31-Mar-20 11:15:10

I think I know what MaizieD means, but there's no getting away from his talent as a good writer and poet, especially for children. I've been recommended his book about the Dreyfus affair: 'The disappearance of Emile Zola', which I'm intending to read soon.

Jaycee5 Tue 31-Mar-20 11:21:29

He has unfortunately been on the receiving end of a very nasty online bullying campaign (some of which spilled over to his family) and it is sad that that happened just before becoming ill. The stress can't have helped. He was courageous in standing up to it.
It has been very worrying news but good that he has now moved to a ward and hopefully people will be kinder now and remember that words have an effect.

Seakay Tue 31-Mar-20 11:25:09

I hope that he recovers - I fear that the damage to his mental health resulting from the prolonged and vicious campaign of Rachel "I don't look like a typical Jew" Riley and her cohorts will have lowered his immunity and resilience.

Bossyrossy Tue 31-Mar-20 12:05:05

Get well soon, Michael.

Roswell Tue 31-Mar-20 12:11:23

Sorry to read this and hope he recovers quickly.

Davida1968 Tue 31-Mar-20 13:01:01

I echo everyone's good wishes & thoughts, sent here to Michael. I've always loved his books & enjoyed listening to him on Radio 4.
