Exercise

Absolutely petrified they ban this now. The rebound effect of de conditioning will be so bad for fit people. The morons on beaches are ruining it for people who are fit and have done this for health. Even elderly people need to exercise to help joints loosen. Oh well I’ll be biking in the dark once curtains are closed, then who knows what will happen to me,

Went out today for the first time in four weeks. My son took me for half an hour in my wheelchair (we live together), it was lovely to wander around the village. Not many people out but lots of people doing their front gardens. Everyone was so friendly saying goodbye morning’

I too am furious, we have been so stringent, 1 hourly walk a day and a trip to the supermarket for the first time in 12 days.
It isn’t difficult, I have neighbours that are totally confined and others who are out and about as normal.
There will be some real anger if we are stopped.

Guineagirl Sun 05-Apr-20 12:03:05

Totally agree, maybe parks should be closed and seafronts etc patrolled but a health secretary banning it is a joke, I’m so ill with worry about this on top of business going bust, virus itself and food shopping too, measure are strict enough. I see some very very fit cyclists when out they have worked at this it’s disgusting and wrong to stop them.

Smileless2012 Sun 05-Apr-20 12:05:05

I'm furious too Missfoodlove. We don't even go out together to walk our dogs so they get 2 walks a day. They should fine these idiots on the spot, they're going to spoil it for the rest of us.

Guineagirl Sun 05-Apr-20 12:12:06

Also the countries banned exercise they banned dog walks too.

farview Sun 05-Apr-20 12:22:48

If I was unable to go out across the field for my evening walk..I would definitely lose the plot..missing my children, grandchildren, friends, normal life..my walk is a sort of meditation for me...

BlueSky Sun 05-Apr-20 12:27:20

You've got me worried now. One hour walk in our quiet village is what keeps me sane and my DH being able to move. But people will start to go shopping every day for one item like they do now in Europe where exercise is banned!

GagaJo Sun 05-Apr-20 12:29:05

Just stay in! Run up and down the stairs, burpees if you're very fit. Online aeobics. There's plenty of 'in house' exercise you can do.

For gods sake! This is a modern plague. The more people are out and about, the longer we'll be in bl**dy lockdown.

Guineagirl Sun 05-Apr-20 12:29:48

I know sorry I keep replying I need someone to chat to. This instability and fear of other measures is what is making me more ill than the virus itself. In Italy they started walking fluffy soft toys.

Guineagirl Sun 05-Apr-20 12:32:01

Gagajo sorry but heart rate will not get up doing that and plus I have no stairs so that’s good advice. You cannot judge where people live as a definate judge on the country. Some people live rural as I and so can exercise not near anyone. The exercise boosts immunity too.

I heard about the possible ban this morning and it has made me anxious, as long as people are walking and social distancing then not to much harm can be done. The people that flouted the rules a couple of weeks ago and crammed onto beeches and local parks set about ruining things for others who were happy to stick to rules. If they try to enforce this it could bring about anarchy and I am now getting impatient with the government. I better watch the Queens address tonight and try to calm down.

GagaJo Sun 05-Apr-20 12:40:38

Have you read the reports that the 2 metre distance isn't enough? Running on the spot. HIT exercise. There are OF COURSE ways to exercise at home. Those that say otherwise are making excuses.

Anarchy because they are AT LAST working out we all just need to stay in? None of us like it. I'm locked in with a 2 year old. Try that for frustration!

Frankly, if you want to risk your own life, that's your choice. But you don't have the right to risk the lives of others.

It HAS to be one rule for everyone or we're still going to be in this mess for longer.

Urmstongran Sun 05-Apr-20 12:42:57

I’m in Spain. Complete lockdown. Day 22 now out of 49. No outside exercise for ANYONE. Police checks. Only dog walkers. The Spanish entrepreneurs have apparently been renting their dogs out to their neighbours ...

GagaJo Sun 05-Apr-20 12:44:58

Urm, I don't often agree with you, but on this I do. We all need to stay in.

Eglantine21 Sun 05-Apr-20 12:50:27

The thing is people still don’t really believe it.

All those who say I must have my daily exercise, truthfully if you really believed your life depended on staying indoors, really, really believed it, you wouldn’t have any trouble staying put.

My husband spent six months in an isolation tent measuring 10’x 10’, no view, no fresh air, no exercise.

It wasn’t impossible because he really believed (correctly) that his life depended on him staying there.

No point getting angry. The measures are for your benefit. To keep you alive.?

3nanny6 Sun 05-Apr-20 12:52:30

Gagajo ; count yourself lucky to be locked up with a two year old. I bl...dy wish I was locked up with one of my grand-children and sorry it would not be my idea of FRUSTRATION.
All the things that can be done at the home with a toddler are miraculous.

I used to be the only mum at the school gates that loved, enjoyed the long summer holidays and everyday found something for my children to keep them occupied, when they went back in September I missed them for about 2-3 weeks. Days with your kids are memories so make them good as you can never get that time back.

Yes I love my exercise slot and the little I get is killing me because I love outside but one way or another I am continuing to exercise why what are they going to do lock us all up?

GagaJo Sun 05-Apr-20 12:55:31

It's lock in or death for a lot of us. US especially.

It's not me that's frustrated, it's him. He's a very outdoorsy boy and he begs to go out.

notanan2 Sun 05-Apr-20 12:59:00

The "morons on the beach" mostly live within 2k of it I bet! The beaches being photographed are beaches near dense housing, mostly flats with no gardens

Are you not allowed to exercise near your home if your home is beside a beach/park/nature reserve?

The beach/parks car parks are closed. These are mostly local people on foot/bike!

Riverwalk Sun 05-Apr-20 13:02:48

It's not me that's frustrated, it's him. He's a very outdoorsy boy and he begs to go out.

Is there a reason why you can't go out at all?

3nanny6 Sun 05-Apr-20 13:18:43

Riverwalk : I was going to ask the same question about taking the little boy outside.

I have not heard a rule that says children cannot go out, when I have my exercise slot I always see children but I keep a long distance from them.
Have you got a garden?

Eglantine21 Sun 05-Apr-20 13:21:10

Perhaps the reason is she doesn’t want her family to catch CV and die?

DoraMarr Sun 05-Apr-20 13:32:31

I have been out today for the first time for ages having been in quarantine for suspected CV. In our park there were few people, and nearly everyone was keeping to the guidelines. There was a police patrol, and they were telling people not to sit on the benches. I will be very sad if our park is closed. Going shopping is far more dangerous, and yet there are long queues outside our local supermarket all day, with people still shopping in couples, and not just elderly couples. Getting some exercise and fresh air is beneficial to health, including mental health. It would be unfair if all outdoor exercise was banned: not everyone has a garden.

Urmstongran Sun 05-Apr-20 13:32:40

Hi GagaJo ?

It's unbelievable how many people suddenly can't live without exercise. It's as if the obesity epidemic never existed....

I feel so sorry for young families stuck in flats with no private outside space . They need to have some outside time or they will go insane .
