How do you think they managed the virus emergency in China? If they are told to jump they ask how high, we argue for all we are worth!

We're actually really lucky, in many ways. In China, things are restricted all the time - tv, newspapers, internet, all censored. The people are repressed.

Is everyone online in Dubai? Not everyone in the UK is. A curfew of that nature only works if there is no mass desperation.

I can't answer about TV in China SQ, because I didn't watch it there (don't speak Mandarin). But you can get western newspapers in China. I had a subscription to the Guardian while I lived there.

EVERYONE has a VPN (virtual private network) so can access the regular, western internet. I'm not even sure the government really try to stop VPN usage. My school set it up for us when I worked there and lots of our students were the children of CPC ministers. I used all of my usual social media AND watched the BBC online using it in China.

Yes, things are very different there. But the average Chinese person is no different to the average Western person.

Dubai has it right I think, people shouldn’t be going to the supermarket frequently like some still are here.

A friend of mine has got the virus. She was ONLY going out for the supermarket, once a week and walking her dog.

It's tough if you are a nurse or doctor on the frontline. Very tough indeed. Or a parademic

Supermarkets are the main place where social distancing isn't always possible. The virus can be in the air, on trolley handles, food packaging, at the checkout - and in the loos.

People still aren't following the advice to visit infrequently. What is the earthly point in queuing outside two metres apart - in a breeze?

gillybob, I disagree. I've never had a car and used to visit supermarkets. There's no need to go twice a week!

In France, from tomorrow there is a new gadget to be added on the iPhone instead of having the downloaded signed and dated government document. I find this a bit scary as they say that this will help them, in the future to track how the virus is spreading and then... after..

When I lived in China, I had BBC and wanted my Chinese teacher to watch the news but she refused saying that Chinese people had been warned that foreigners and their news media were giving false details, regarding at that time deaths in floods.

Exactly MissA imagine trying to shop as a single parent with a child (or more) in tow, with no transport . Not easy.

It's not as if some have access to a car, and public transport, through nobody's fault, has been terrible.

Hetty58 not everyone can carry on foot the weekly requirements for a family of 1/2 adults and 4 children as would have been my lot some years ago. DH worked away from home and at that time I had no access to the car.

I have always taken my DD and her little one shopping . She doesn’t drive and I can’t tell you how hard it is for her with a baby in tow. It is breaking my heart. I have driven to hers and left some heavy stuff on her doorstep . Rang her phone and driven away . I just couldn’t bear to see her and my little Evie’s face . Heartbreaking .

MissA have you got a backpack, it could be easier to carry heavy stuff in one of those than lugging it along in your hands.
