Test, test, test

What I'm going to say, will set some of you off. I'm aware of this. I'm NOT going to respond to the nasty comments. Making that clear upfront.

Talking to my lovely Chinese friend yesterday. Her mother has kidney problems and needs dialysis. Her father and brother are useless and therefore she is going to travel to Wuhan (where her family live) to help her mum arrange and start her treatment.

When she arrives in Wuhan, she will be tested. Then she will have to do a 2 week quarantine in her parents home. ONLY then will she be allowed out. After she's finished helping her mum set up her medical treatment, she will return (by train) to her home city. She will be tested again. And will have to then do a 2 week quarantine again.

Both quarantines are absolute. No going out. Not for shopping. Not to visit anyone. Not to get medication.

I'm AWARE of attitudes to China. That isn't what this post is about. It is about HOW to contain the infection through thorough and repeated testing. Ultimately, THIS is what we in the UK need to do.

It is what we have been told continuously since February and what we have singularly failed to do.

The only way out of lockdown is to test. At last this excuse for a government is trying to get its act together..

Not doing terribly well at the moment but I suppose we can live in hope. That’s all that we’ve got.

Are they approaching it WWM? Do you have any news links? I'd love to read them. I'm starting to feel this is forever. Some hope would help a bit.

Here in the uk she would be slated for travelling to deal with a family medical matter that closer people could have sorted, a bit like a certain Tory....

They are excruciatingly slowly getting the antigen tests out there, but they are thousands off what they should be. The problem was that like everything else the public owned labs were closed because of austerity and so this is a major issue now.

The antibody testing kits are in a real mess. Somehow most governments are successfully importing and using antibody kits, but this daft government managed to get a load that didn’t work. So have returned them demanding their money back.

Difficult to make it up isnt it?

If you’re going to be quarantined whatever the results of the test, which is what this story suggests, why bother testing?

Don’t think I’m objecting to the quarantines. I’m not.

Tests that have been tested here have so far not been accurate enough: too many false positives and false negatives so not terribly useful.

No theyre not. LOTs of other places have had problems with faulty or contaminated supplies at the moment.
The buy now check later approach has been DISASTEROUS abroad!
