This is a hard question. My immediate thought was to get the small businesses open but then realised they'd need the wholesalers and the wholesalers would need their supply chain in place which means the manufacturers would need their supply chain in place. So I had to start again.

The schools/nurseries need to reopen. Two reasons. It's not good for children to be out of education for too long. They forget things over the summer holidays so it will be even worse over a longer period of time. With the children back at school the adults available to return to work.

Some companies may have found that having their staff working from home has made very little impact on them. If possible their employees should continue to work from home where possible until a much later date.

Transport timetables need to be back to normal so that people can move around again. I'm not a fan of the facemask, however perhaps it would be a good idea to wear one if public transport is crowded.

Industry needs to get started again. Both large and small businesses (all varieties) need to reopen

Shops need to reopen so that we can start to spend money again in order to support the economy.

Place of entertainment/parks/museums etc. will help to lift people's spirits.

I think people will be cautious at first which would be a good thing but, as long as the infection numbers continue to fall, they will soon relax.

Ramadan starts on the 23rd of April this year, I do hope that people are not tempted to choose religion over social distancing and lockdown guidance.

I think many people on this thread are overly optimistic about people not rushing out. They loosened Restrictions in Jacksonville Florida, and people were immediately out ignoring the new restrictions. Immediately.

Things will not return to how they were any time soon if at all. There will be economic failures, Social distancing, people in the main will still be afraid. It's going to be a long haul to get back on our feet. I feel so worried for our children and grandchildren who will bear the brunt of all this in an economic sense. That's a pessimistic view I know and we have to work together to help get things back on track.

Actually the Florida beach story cautions AGAINST staged reopenings.

Local government CAUSED bottle knecking of beach use by only opening it for very limited timeslots.

Had they FULLY opened it not everyone would have all gone there at the same time..

I'd open certain sectors at a time and require masks. Anyone who can work from home would stay home the longest. I'd send primary schools back before secondary as people are less likely to be working with younger children. I don't honestly think we can stop this thing so my priority would be not overwhelming hospitals. The vulnerable would need to stay home till a vaccine is made but I think fir mental health they would need hours they can get exercise and perhaps have exclusive areas to do so.

If you phase what you reopen too much you force everyone into the same place at the same time which is far worse than allowing everything to open so people are more dispersed.

You could always phase by age bracket instead

But the people were still ignoring distancing, sunbathing and gathering. All things they were told not to do.

How on earth would that work?
You cant reopen your restaurant if youre only allowed certain aged staff and customers?

If beaches are reopened to 20 somethings, what if the local lifeguards are all 30 somethings who arent out till the next age bracket?

We'd fix that with common sense notanan. If I was in charge anyway. Obviously all business could not open at the same time but temporary labour could be moved around to plug gaps perhaps. I'm not in charge though and it was only an idea lol

All of this relies on people in general to have common sense though so... We are screwed

I should think that social distancing and wearing masks will have to become an everyday thing when not at home. Something very substantial in our lives has to change - we can't just all walk out as if nothing has happened and pick up where we left off, sadly.

People will be very anxious and with good reason. The reality has only been shock and sadness and very bad news, nothing good so far. Perhaps groups should be let out in 'waves' according to their role in society, e.g. school children, those who can't work from home, self-employed etc., and spaces of 2 to 3 weeks could be left between such groups, so that the impact of that, regarding infections, could be monitored and then maybe re-assessments made. Oldies might have to be last but then they'll need all the protection they can get.

We all need hairdressers - so hairdressers working at your home could be a sensible plan to start. All places where people are always in very close proximity, masks or not, should be kept closed, including cafés, restaurants, pubs, gyms, etc.,

Public parks, beaches, etc., could reopen but simply for walking/moving - not gathering of groups, sunbathing, picnics etc., ball games - at least at the start.

Small shops could possibly have a counter in their own doorways to begin with. No one in the shop, owner fetching item to be purchased, no browsing but then no loitering or mixing either. Just to start.

Loved the idea of marking those fools who have never taken this situation seriously and have put others at risk. Like that's ever going to happen....but it brought a smile!

But firstly, coordinated news of PROPER TESTING, then at last some PROPER PLANNING AND REASSURANCE - nothing vague - and PLEASE, SOON, A VACCINE

I'm not too bothered for myself what rules are relaxed because I have absolutely no intention of taking advantage of most of it. I do appreciate that other people, especially those living I flats and/or with children, need to get out. I also accept that some rules need to be relaxed so that the economy gets going again. For me, that's the only real justification for relaxing the rules and needs to be thought about carefully, with the least risk to people. Whatever we do, the government needs to be managing and being in control, so we need testing and knowing what we're dealing with.

Spraying people sounded funny but a bit white-featherish, not to say dangerous when they retaliate, wrestle the spray from your hand and spray you .

How would you know it wasn't some exhausted NHS worker lurching groggily to buy essentials?

How would you know the person near them wasn't part of their bubble?

My grand-daughter flats with 17 people - they have separate rooms but eat together in the hostel dining room and games room, so are all in the same bubble. How would you know that if you saw them on the way to the supermarket?

I've no idea hoo Covexit would be regulated and I suspect the UK government is just as lost and confused as everyone else.

That's the problem with putting people who've had "a good education" into positions which really need to be filled by experts in their fields who know how to handle crises.

I have just read they are going to start opening some schools in 3 weeks and more shops that can provide social distancing. The vulnerable and over 70s are going to have to isolate until autumn 2021.
I feel like going out there and getting the virus to get it over and done with one way or the other. Of course that would not be fair to everyone else.
My life has already been on hold for 18 months due to ill health and cannot face another 18.

Once we have a safe effective vaccine produced in vast quantities, then surely C19 will be no more of a threat than flu?

Growstuff.... I work in a hospital already... the wards are empty as coronavirus official figures are vastly inflated to panic the general public. In fact less people in hospital than last year, deaths similar figures to seasonal flu. COVID19 the non-existent pandemic
