I'm sure this has been mentioned before but in case anyone hasn't seen it I urge them to sign up to it and input how they are feeling each day. It's really interesting to see the results of their analysis each day. Regional variations and clear evidence of reduction.

It only takes a few seconds to update each day , and you can now report for others with their permission .

I put it up before. I agree! It's fascinating and their data is a lot more positive than the news. I know the news is realistic and dire but we need a positive POV too.

I haven't a clue how to install an app on to my phone, so no, I won't be using it.

Jane10 Sat 25-Apr-20 16:52:53

If you Google it its very straightforward to download. I wish I could put a link. Seriously, you wouldn't regret it. It's not that scary one where they know where you are so can tell you if one of your contacts has Covid 19.

growstuff Sat 25-Apr-20 21:14:38

My phone is stone age. I don't think it's up to it. What would be the advantage anyway? I don't have any physical contacts.

Willow500 Sat 25-Apr-20 21:16:03

I tried to download it before and it said it wasn't available in my area?

GagaJo Sat 25-Apr-20 21:21:50

It's to track the uk rate of transmission. Because as we know, those in hospital are the tip of the iceberg.

The updates are very positive. It seems from the data that transmission rate is hugely down since lockdown.

I think we need every positive we can get at the moment.

GagaJo Sat 25-Apr-20 21:26:10

This is the one.

growstuff Sat 25-Apr-20 21:53:48

That's the one I found Gagajo. I have absolutely no patience with these things, so I didn't bother to follow it up. It didn't show up as available in the area - or it could have been that my phone is too old. I'm not sure, but I'm really not that interested, so I didn't investigate. If I knew there were some benefit, I might.

The huge benefit is to the nations scientists trying to track the probable spread of the disease throughout the country. Its not the one to inform about contacts. It is open to everyone in UK. Once you've logged on all you have to do is check in each day and say if you've been tested then how you are feeling. They're gathering all sorts of data regarding various differing presentations of the disease across age groups too.
I've found it incredibly reassuring to see that my local prevalence has reduced to 0.8.

heath480 Sat 25-Apr-20 22:49:26

I have been doing this for several weeks, once you are registered it only takes a few seconds to do each day.

growstuff Sat 25-Apr-20 23:12:34

But I still can't find where I can install it for an Android phone in my area.

growstuff Sat 25-Apr-20 23:13:57

I know I'm not going to have symptoms of anything because I literally have not had contact with the outside world for over a month.

GagaJo Sat 25-Apr-20 23:43:57

Oooo Jane, where did you find that??

Me neither, growstuff. But our lack of symptoms is as important as those with them. It’s the whole picture.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 26-Apr-20 07:14:48

growstuff that’s the point.

If you have an apple I-pad as I have go into the App Store then search for covid19 then download for free. Done.

You will be helping take part in what is happening throughout the U.K. and helping the researchers to know how the strategy is working.

It is very satisfying as day by day you can see how the virus is reducing.

You are doing your bit by isolating, make it known and appreciated.

Have a good day?

Oopsadaisy3 Sun 26-Apr-20 08:09:25

I’m doing it, but I think a few more questions might be helpful.
like others we are self isolating, so we are unlikely to get the Virus, but we aren’t asked if we are working, isolating or going shopping.
Anyway, it’s quick and easy, hopefully it will help towards research.

Whitewavemark2 Sun 26-Apr-20 08:13:06

oops the researchers have all the information they need otherwise they would ask more questions.

brook2704 Sun 26-Apr-20 08:32:21

I’ve downloaded it and been completing daily for a couple of weeks now for myself and DH. I’m not sure how accurate it is yet though, but as more people use it the data could be more reliable.
It’s only valid though if people input accurate data !

Pittcity Sun 26-Apr-20 09:10:36

Thanks OP. I've downloaded it and will be updating. Useful and easy to use.

growstuff Sun 26-Apr-20 09:24:27

Whitewave I don't have any Apple stuff and my guess is that most of the people likely to most affected by Covid-19 don't have Apple or up-to-date smartphones either.

growstuff Sun 26-Apr-20 09:25:32

Not so simple, is it?

Pittcity Sun 26-Apr-20 09:34:36

The app is available for iPhone and Android here.

Pittcity Sun 26-Apr-20 09:42:30

This is an unofficial app that is just to help experts.
The official NHS/ government app is yet to be launched

SirChenjin Sun 26-Apr-20 09:46:02

growstuff - if you have an Android phone you’ll have an App Store, every smartphone has one. Might be called Google Play?

I’ve just downloaded the app on my iPhone, it’s really easy and straightforward. Thanks for sharing the link smile
