Reasons to be cheerful in lockdown

What keeps you going? One of the things I miss is meeting in a cafe for coffee and a sneaky cake, so I try to have good coffee, and I've started baking again, so there's usually something in the tin - nothing complicated: all-in-one cake, traybake, something like that. What's your treat to yourself?

Having a sweet treat after dinner a few squares of chocolate or slice of cake. Definitely my hours exercise every day lifts my spirits.

I am luckily not one who suffers from depression but before all this when waking I would feel a bit down thinking about mine and hubby's age and what the future holds. By the time I'd showered it was all forgotten thankfully.

This is really strange, but since lockdown I haven't felt like that at all. I have a little plan on what I'm going to do each day and go with it. I used to always need something to look forward to but I have totally accepted I'm going nowhere and it doesn't bother me a bit. What I don't finish today can be done tomorrow.

I feel a lot like you overthehill but my new routine involves a G&T before supper and I am really enjoying the weekly family zoom quizzes, set by each family in turn,
We generally don't do too well but it is so lovely to see all the faces and it keeps us going!

I must admit to quite liking the slower pace of life. I miss the socialising but not as much as I thought I would and luckily there is the phone and the internet and the radio and books and such a lot to do if I want to. Not having to clean the house is another plus!.

I hope you are all cheerful?

This evening it's a couple of massive vodka and lemonades. I haven't had a drink for weeks.

Definitely the daily walk. Now I would really mind not been able to do that but then I would have to walk round and round the garden! Apart from that we have all the comforts of home so it's not too bad, I feel like an indoor cat!

Only two things on my list, for today at least.
1) Everything
2) Everybody.

Going back to bed in a bit, will be ok after a good cry. No comments, please. I just needed to say it.

When I get books delivered to me by the local library - think I would go mad if I didn't have something to read.

It is so quiet - I can hear the birds sing rather than the hum of traffic. I miss my family and friends but it is quite nice to just relax and feel I can do whatever I want to do without being self-indulgent.
I am a fairly active 70+ but have realised that I can still enjoy myself in the future if/when I become less active.

Just knowing my family are safe and well , keeps me going .

Knowing that life can't get any worse ... can it?

Applegran Sat 02-May-20 10:01:59

When lockdown started I found that I was actually enjoying not being so busy - something to think about when it ends. But now my diary is filling up a bit with on line 'meetings' with friends and groups, which I really enjoy. They are very different from sitting together, but a good alternative at the moment. On line get togethers are a bit more tiring than being in the same room, so don't last as long as when we could actually be together. But they are really worth it - we all feel connected and enjoy our conversations.

Knowing my family and friends are safe. Still being able to go for a daily walk. Spending more time with my husband. Living.

I suffer from depression and at the moment its sky high and if my daughter or 2 young grandson whatsapp me it gets worse so I've started to talk to them about all the nice things we will do when this is all over and it helps

Like you Masquerader I miss my coffee and cake I’d used to have a coffee around 11 o’clock mainly go out for one and a piece of cake. So I am making an effort to make a good cup of coffee filter with frothy milk and I’ve been making cakes. So I’ll sit weather permitting in garden and enjoy it. My treat to myself ?

There are so many things to be grateful for - family, friends, house, garden, wonderful neighbours and just being alive. Perhaps we are all starting to count our blessings.

Like Grammaretto.I don't mind it too much. I get to walk my 2 Westies in the morning when the park is quiet and have the rest of the day to do things I like doing. I miss hugs from my granddaughters but I'll make up for it when I can. I was worried in the beginning about my older sister who was in hospital at the beginning of lockdown but she was sent back to her Care Home and is still okay. I thought I might not get to see her again but we'll have to live in hope yet.

Like others say, knowing my family are safe and well. The only family members I have (apart from distant ones who I have no contact with) actually live with me (husband and daughter, who is working from home) and we are all staying in!

NannyG123 Sat 02-May-20 10:47:58

Ditto other posts family and friends keep me going.

Definitely counting my blessings and pleased that I and my family have been able to cope, so far. (always the nod to the fates.)

Glad I don’t have to go on holiday this year. It might seem a strange thing to be happy about, but OH is a pain, he wont drive any more but wants to travel around the French vineyards late summer. When we fly to the south of France in spring he gets confused going through airports, in strange gites and towns.
We are in touch with DS and DD, GC via FaceTime more often than before lockdown and they are all fit and well and coping with working from home.
What more could I ask?
