Would you consider a homeshare during this time - help with loneliness

I’ve heard that lots of older people who live alone and are particularly isolated during this period, are signing up to homeshare schemes where you’re matched with a younger homesharer for companionship and they give a number of hours of help around the house. Anyone tried it? I saw a piece in Evening Standard about Two Generations.

Sounds like a good idea

What a great idea, for those who would like it. But it wouldn't suit me. After ten years alone I like my own space now.

I would be extremely wary of that.

Yes for those who need company and are not worried about having strangers in their house. It wouldn't suit me.

Me too Esspee I am not the most tolerant person so would prefer to be alone rather than with someone who could possibly irritate the hell out of me.
I can imagine more sociable people may enjoy this. There is a big difference though in having someone with you all the time and a visit from a friend .

There has been several homeshare schemes for a long time - officially run, with social services involvement.

It's an excellent idea, and I'm always surprised more people don't use it. Not at the present time, though.

I hope there is some form of checking, and ongoing help available, for both types of participant.

Yes, there is.

No thankyou.

Not for me. I quite enjoy my own company now. In fact, a friend and I, during a telephone conversation, were saying that we have got so used to pottering about at home, that we are not now in any great hurry to go out. That is sad, isn’t it!

MissAdventure Sun 24-May-20 14:03:17

Oh, I think that's great.
Pottering about is a marvellous thing, and much overlooked these days. smile
