No longer shielded

How very typical of this rabble.

I don't trust that they're doing it for the right reasons.

I don't know much about it because it doesn't affect me. It was being discussed on a Facebook group. Somebody thought it was a hoax, but apparently it's true. I know it affects some people with cancer and some others.

Apart from no longer receiving food boxes, people of working age in this group will no longer be eligible for sick pay and could be sacked if they don't feel safe going to work.

I was on the shielded list and had SIX communications to that effect. I then spoke to GP who said - no, no reason for me to be on that list. I then had a letter saying - Oops, sorry, we got it wrong, you are not on the shielded list. Then I had a phone all saying I was!!!

So - now I know!!!

Why does it not surprise me that the doctors did not know?

Someone in our family has just been told (two months after lockdown) that he is extremely vulnerable and must be sheilded. He has a number of pre-existing conditions but nothing that wasn't there in March. Why now?

Is the shielding supposed to end on 30 June for people who correctly received the letter? If a person shielding happened to live in a quiet rural area would there be any harm in going for a walk? Just out of curiosity.

I suppose, to be perfectly fair, when you consider how complicated some people's medical histories are, it would be pretty amazing if everyone had been perfectly categorised.

I received two letter and several texts telling me to shield.
I haven’t yet heard anything to the contrary, via text or any other means.
I shall continue shielding until I have a letter advising me otherwise.

I would be interested in hearing from GN’s who have been advised to stop. My partner is very concerned and feels I should continue shielding, in the short term at least. We are both concerned about this Government’s motives and levels of competence.

I know someone who has been told, by letter, that she has to continue shielding until mid-July (Wales).

I shall be miffed if I receive one as I think, by then, I can use my own judgement depending on local circumstances.

We looked up the list of conditions which required patients to be shielded and realised DH had one of those conditions before we got the letter.

By mid-June, sorry, not by mid-July.

Mine said to shield until June 30th in England. I'd actually welcome a letter telling me not to shield any more, and I refused the food boxes but still get priority delivery slots.

I'll see if I can get a screenshot from one of the people who said they'd been told not to shield any more.

I'm not trying to score points here. I'm genuinely puzzled about what's going on.

The advice on the government website hasn't changed, so I'm wondering if some people were put in the wrong category in the first place, But who's made that decision if doctors haven't been consulted?

Surely if people are genuinely that vulnerable, they would continue to want to be shielded. I know I'm still very cautious and I'm not even shielded.

Maybe the government thinks that people won’t need to be shielded when the tracing app is up and running. Whenever that is....

I know I'm a misery, but i can't see how the app will work.
Lots of people don't have smart phones, and it will work by using bluetooth, from what i know (which, admittedly, is not much)

Read an article today saying the tracking app doesn't work and that tracking will be done more or less manually.

So, will people do it, do you think?
I watched the crowded beaches, and dr hilary was asking where people would be keeping their phones, and how they would find the details of everyone they came into contact with.

If we had the app that everyone else is using it would work. Then again it wouldn't be made by Johnson and Cummings pals I suppose. It won't work on my ancient Nokia, anyway.

Is this trace and track starting today?

I don't see how the tracing will make any difference to people who need shielding.

It's supposed to be starting tomorrow, but that seems doubtful. I read somewhere it's going to be a manual tracing service.

Anybody who thinks he/she is infected is supposed to inform somebody (by phone or email or text - not sure). That person will then be contacted by a tracer and sent a testing kit in the post. The results are likely to take at least 48 hours. If the test is positive, the person will be contacted and asked to list anybody with whom he/she had been in close contact, who will then be asked to self-isolate.

Two problems spring to mind. Firstly, it depends on the initial person knowing the name and contact details of everybody he/she has been in contact with. During the 48 hour wait for test results, any number of contacts could be wandering around infecting others, unknowingly. One of those could very well be a highly vulnerable person.

Personally, I wouldn't be prepared to take the risk. I would want to keep any contact with others to an absolute minimum, unless I could be totally sure that any other person had been self-isolating. I am extremely relieved I'm not in the position of being forced to work in an environment where self-distancing is not possible.

That's one of the reasons I'm angry, because I go out every day to work, on public transport, to work with vulnerable people, and I have to trust that people are trying their best not to take chances.

Events in the last couple of weeks have shown that isn't the case, and that some think it's fine to not bother, as long as their families are ok.

Hi has anyone had to have an emergency plumber in or annual boiler inspection. How does that work.

Someone I know had a new boiler put in by british gas on Tuesday.

They were just asked to move to each room ahead of the workers.
