This is a bit sudden, usually we get a week's warning. Even Grant Schapps is on holiday over there. Will he had to quarantine for 2 weeks? Will there be exceptions?

I have no sympathy. Anyone risking going abroad for a holiday so soon after total Lockdown was taking a chance.

We have a holiday industry of our own that could do with support.

Just as we were starting to think holidays! Quite scary really, I can see that as soon as rules are relaxed, there'll be clusters of infections cropping up all over the place!

My neighbours are due to fly to Madrid on Tuesday but have cancelled. It's their 4th holiday booking and cancellation since March. They're tenacious! I'd have given up by now and booked a holiday in the UK.

Is this mainland Spain? We’re planning on going with our family bubble to Menorca mid August-virtually had no cases there. Special vented masks for plane. Villa isolated there. Someone has just been and said airports at both ends quiet and she felt v safe.

The rules include the islands as well as mainland Spain I'm afaid my daughter will be affected and doesnt know what to do as regards work and school for her daughter.

WOODMOUSE49 Sat 25-Jul-20 23:59:36

Newquay. Why do you believe vented mask will help whilst on the plane?

I’m not surprised. In fact the only thing that surprises me is that this wasn’t announced a few days ago. Spain is having a huge spike all over the country. I can’t imagine why anyone wants to go there.

The locals in Barcelona were advised only to go out for essentials last week.

I think it's ver good that this has been introduced with no prevarication. It is exactly the way things should have accursed all along.

However, to introduce quarantine with no checking that it's being adhered to is worthless. And that is what happened last time. Lip service.

I’m in Spain, here since beginning of July and will return mid September and quarantine for a fortnight if necessary, it was planned that way. We’re retired and well able to do so but I have sympathy for those working who may now have to cancel as they can’t do accordingly.

GagaJo Sun 26-Jul-20 06:54:45

Argh!
How things should have been introduced all along.

At last some signs of leadership. But only after the highest death rate in Europe.

GagaJo Sun 26-Jul-20 06:58:04

Let's hope it continues so they have a better grip of things for the second wave.

Furret Sun 26-Jul-20 07:12:34

Oh I do hope so.

Oldwoman70 Sun 26-Jul-20 07:15:48

Newquay I thought a vented mask was considered unsuitable as expelled breath is dispersed further through the valve

Cart before the horse again shock

Exactly merlot.

A man from ABTA just said, on Breakfast, that it doesnt apply to the Islands.

DD1 has cancelled her holiday in Majorca as the hotel has only opened half it's facilities. She is relieved as they had given in to the children's request for a 'hot' holiday and she wasn't looking forward to it. They are going to Scarborough.

BlueSky Sun 26-Jul-20 07:56:59

Are holidays in the UK safe then? I can see hot spots cropping up over here too when invaded by holidaymakers. I'm staying put as much as my DH is eager to go, but I just don't feel comfortable yet.

kittylester Sun 26-Jul-20 08:04:41

Now someone has said the islands are included. confused

Any person returning from Spain or the islands and not quarantining themselves for fourteen days would be liable to "instant dismissal" from their employment by their employers if they attend their workplace in that time.

Another one here pleased at the speed of action. Nowhere is totally ‘safe’, risks have to be factored in to planning. Worth remembering any of us could be asked to quarantine through contact.

Jaxjacky Sun 26-Jul-20 08:24:13

Foreign Office advice has never changed, essential travel only.

Hetty58 Sun 26-Jul-20 08:31:21

UK quarantine (so-called) arrangements are a complete joke.

Give your address at the airport, travel home by public transport (pick up some shopping on the way) then comply (or not) with self-isolation!

Returning to NZ requires two weeks in a hotel (self-funded) and no leaving the building.

Government give 2 weeks notice , people moan that they are not decisive.
Government give no notice, people moan that it is not fair.

Going abroad on holiday in the middle of this pandemic is a personal choice and it has always been said that things could change at any time.

People have to take responsibility for their own actions and decisions not just in this scenario but it all walks of life.
