Scanning QR codes in cafes

Does anyone have a reliable ( and preferably free) app for an iPhone that scans the QR codes we are asked to scan when we go into some cafes. It’s for trace contact reasons so I am keen to oblige. Costa and Cafe Nero ask you to scan the code when you are sitting in and I’m guessing other places do too.
I downloaded a QR Reader App a while ago and it was free but now it’s $39.99 a year or it’s UK equivalent.

The iPhone built in camera scans Q codes. You don’t need an extra app!

What about Android phones? What do we do on them- anyone know? Thanks.

Just go into Playstore on an Android phone and search for QR scanner, lots of free apps on there.

Thankyou geekess that simplifies things!
Kirkcubbin2000 it’s one of those images made up of lots of dots that you see on all sorts of information panels etc. Don’t know how else to explain.

I saw that in the Hotel across the road from us yesterday, I do not have a smart phone, and just filled in my name and mobile number.
I hope it does not become the 'thing' here or places will be losing business.

How will places lose business? It’s just a way of putting a lot of information into a small, machine readable format. Once upon a time, people gave you cardboard business cards, then they emailed vCards, now you can simply scan a QR code from an advert or notice. They are like barcodes, but you can put a lot more information into a QR code.

The really brilliant thing about them is that they can link information to codes. So, for example, museums can put a QR code on each exhibit, and visitors can scan that to go to a website which has loads of extra information about that exhibit. At least one attraction I know sends a QR code by email when you book, and that can be used to find the location, and thus get driving directions on Google maps.

Places will lose business by people like me who was not able to buy a coffee because I couldn't use the QR code thing. I already had my food or I would have left. My sympathy was with the lovely young manageress who was extremely embarrassed but 'that was the system'. She kindly gave me a glass of water but broke the rules as even that should go through the code. Parts of this world have gone mad indeed. I have spread the word and hopefully saved my friends from this inconvenience.

I hate it when you have to use those to see a menu! I have an iPhone but the screen is too small to be able to read anything comfortably.
More than once I’ve asked for a proper menu and so far nobody’s refused.
