This is for Scottish grans.

I was wondering how many people today, like me, have downloaded NHS Scotland’s new contact tracing app to help suppress the spread of coronavirus.

If you have, how successful do you think it will be?

Lucca Thu 10-Sep-20 19:15:59

I think it should be compulsory

Marydoll Thu 10-Sep-20 19:22:36

Unfortunately, it is not compatible with some iPhones and older androids!

My concern is that the people who won't download it, are the people who don't bother about the guidelines anyway.

paddyanne Thu 10-Sep-20 19:28:30

The track and trace thing has been working well.Over 98% of people traced so I think this should be a welcome addition. Its younger folk who it will target and most will download it .
On another point I am livid that the BBC have decided to stop Nicola's briefings being shown .The BBC ..Scotland obviously isn't FOR scottish people at all and is run from WM .This was a lifeline for many older folk who like to be informed .They may have shot themselves in the foot !

Paddyanne, I wasn't aware of this, is it the main BBC channel or actually BBC Scotland?
We always watch it every lunchtime, to keep up to date, as I have been shielding.

I was talking to my neighbour about the app and she hadn't a clue about it, which doesn't surprise me, as she flouted the guidelines all through lockdown.
She muttered something about thinking there were some some changes today, but she doesn't listen to any briefings.
She seemed to be totally unaware that in our local authority, you can't have anyone in your home. Her house is like Sauchiehall street most of the time, despite the fact that she and her husband are in their seventies.

What hope have we got of slowing down the virus, with irresponsible people like that?

GeminiJen Thu 10-Sep-20 19:46:40

Hi Marydoll
Yes, I downloaded it this afternoon. According to the Google site, there were more than 50 thousand downloads by that point.
So, cautiously hopefulsmile

Marydoll Thu 10-Sep-20 19:51:30

Long time no see, Jen! grin

EllanVannin Thu 10-Sep-20 20:00:37

I wonder how those who flouted the rules will feel if this next wave impacts their jobs/businesses ?
They'll have the cheek to blame everyone else.

Marydoll Thu 10-Sep-20 20:02:26

My neighbour was blaming everyone, but her family! I was speechless. and that's a first!

paddyanne Thu 10-Sep-20 20:10:03

350,000 downloads just before 7pm ,according to my 17 year old GS .
The BBC have said they wont show the live briefings ,they will keep us informed of the situation across the UK .That means we'll get the official line which usually tells us the figures for the UK ....when deaths were zero for 6 weeks they still told us total deaths were across the UK misleading at best ,lying to save their own skin most likelyIs it a coincidence that several Tory Mp's complained that the briefings were party political broadcasts ? Just because they have the bumbling waffling idiot shouldn't mean we cant get informationabout whats happening here .

Marydoll Thu 10-Sep-20 20:15:48

That is so disappointing, Paddyanne.
Nicola continues to make Boris look like a bumbling fool!

Marydoll Thu 10-Sep-20 20:21:13

More than 400,000 people have downoaded up until a few hours ago.

Alegrias Thu 10-Sep-20 20:30:18

I haven't downloaded the app yet, but only because, to be honest, I'm scared of getting a message telling me to isolate....I'll build up to doing it though, over the next couple of days.

I'm incandescent about the decision to drop the daily briefings from Nicola. I've watched pretty much every one and never fail to be amazed how the journalists put their spin on what she says; I want to hear her speak directly, not filtered through scientifically illiterate journalists. Its going to be online so I'll watch it there. But for people like my mum and dad who can't access it through the internet, this is very bad news indeed.

Perhaps you could all join me in complaining to the BBC?

Marydoll Thu 10-Sep-20 20:33:51

Alegrias, would you not rather know that you had to isolate than unwittingly infect someone, because you hadn't downloaded the app?

Alegrias Thu 10-Sep-20 20:35:51

Yes I would Marydoll, I'm not proud of not having done it, but I do need to get myself into the right frame of mind. I have no objection to it at all, no worries about privacy or anything like that.

Marydoll Thu 10-Sep-20 20:40:53

It is a considered decision to make, but DH and I just went for it. My problem was that there were so many NHS apps, I struggled to find it, until DD sent me the link.
I'm pretty tech savvy, so I was embarrassed to have to ask her. grin

I also have an NHS Greater Glasgow app, which updates me on the latest Covid news. I have found that very helpful.

Alegrias Thu 10-Sep-20 20:48:07

Well done to you both thanks I haven't been within 2m of anyone for more than 15 minutes since I can't remember when, except DH!

I use the Zoe app to record my symptoms, I've been doing that since all this started.

Marydoll Thu 10-Sep-20 20:51:37

I have that app too. Do I sound a little obsessive? I do like technology!

I hadn't been out for nearly six months, but despite being careful, I find that when I'm out, others don't observe the distancing guidelines. ? Therein lies the problem.

Parsley3 Thu 10-Sep-20 21:15:49

I downloaded the app this morning. I have also been using the Zoe app to record for myself and OH. Didn’t know about the greater Glasgow app so will investigate that one as well.
I do hope that people will do the right thing.

Katek Thu 10-Sep-20 21:26:21

You can still see FM’s daily briefings streamed live on BBC News website.

Parsley3 Thu 10-Sep-20 21:37:53

Thank you, Katek

brook2704 Thu 10-Sep-20 22:03:52

Hi marydoll yes I downloaded the app earlier today and I’m happy to do anything I can to help stop the virus from spreading. I hope it will be successful given the number of people downloading it but unfortunately it wouldn’t work on my DH phone ?

ElaineI Thu 10-Sep-20 22:13:28

Downloaded and so have all my family. Furious with BBC! Been so clear and understandable. How dare they - obviously don't like Boris being made to look like the bumbling fool he is!!!
Sick of the BBC actually after upsetting people like my mother about the licence. Should ditch the license and just use advertising like most other channels!

Marydoll Thu 10-Sep-20 22:33:16

Brook, I read that it only works at on the latest iPhones, not really good enough. ☹️

paddyanne Thu 10-Sep-20 22:35:35

half a million by 10pm ,it will be a success
